God I love this band. Everything about them. Who else likes them? Whats your favorite song by them?

Mines gotta be the 34 minute version of "The Sky Moves Sideways"

I know nothing about them other that one of them produced Opeth's Albums

Oh yeah, they're great.
I have all of their albums in mp3, and own about four of them.

yep they rule. I've got everything from Sky Moves (Moonloop!) to Lightbulb Sun, including Metanoia, Recordings and the Stars Die box. I'm just waiting for them to release more remasters before I'm going to buy more of their older stuff.

not a fan of In Absentia though, but I'm curious what they'll come up with next. should be somewhere later this year (for the Up The Downstairs remaster as well).

so hard to pick a favourite, but it's either Russia On Ice, Waiting, Nine Cats, Radioactive Toy or Moonloop. or Rainy Taxi, or Ambulance Chasing.

This was all I knew as well. But I knew it was Porcupine's main brain Steve Wilson who did the producing.

Any Porcupine fan should buy/rent Opeth's 'Lamentations' as the included 1 hour documentary has steven Wilson center stage for a good portion. I came away thinking the guy is a genius.

I am just the opposite and think "absentia" is best PT album. I think Opeth and PT should trade recent albums.........

"absentia" sounds like it should have been Opeth's next album after "deliverence" a logical progression.

"damnation" sounds more like a PT album........

Just wanted to say "Thanks!" for recommending Porcupine Tree and also Opeth - Damnation. All good stuff that I never heard before and now can't get enough of them.

#1 "the sky moves sideways"
#2 "up the downstairs"
#3 "staircase infinities"

"in absentia" sucks imo, no flames, just not my cup of tea so to speak, to heavy rock influenced and not spacey like their other stuff like i reco'd.

I own quite a few PT albums, and saw them last July here in Tampa. Best concert I've been to yet. The fact that only about 50 people came out to see them made it a sad but fantastic show. The venue had a really good sound system and that bass hit in "Russia on Ice" felt superb

In Absentia is an ok album... it just lacks the consistency of the 3 or 4 albums that came before it. Don't blame them for trying out new things though.

Idiot prayer (Signify). I listened to this one few months ago on a 220 000$ (Can) system with YBA and JMLab flagship components. In fact it was a prank that I made to my favorite audio-dealer during a public session reserved to snobby audiophiles...

Amicalement

P.S. The JMLab guy, no doubt intimidated by my physique and my near proximity, let the song play to the end

Mine fav PT songs:

Lazurus

Half Light

...both very moving

Been to their concert in Krakow. Was nice , but I prefer to listen to their albums lying in my bed at home. I don't like to stand when listening to their music (apart from a few energetic songs). What do you think?

Another reanimed thread..
Strange to see that at that time In Absentia was considered a poor album,
