HD800 takes it IMO. Dynamic drivers just attack better.

The orthos don't move air the same way the HD800 does. I've tried this with HE-5LE (better than 500 in some ways), 500, and LCD-2.

I will reiterate that it is not wise to sell HE-500's to buy HD800. These are both headphones you need to have side by side to really lock down how they sound and what makes them different.

Yes!  IMO, orthos physically move air better.  ;)

Also I like planars for the female vocal reproduction (magical mids)

I prefer male vocal on HD800.

HD800's or HE-500's, that's a tough choice. If there were both on a table and I was told that I could only have one of them, I'd probably leave with the HD800's. Eventually they'll probably replace my HD600, either that or I'd have to add on a new room onto my house. Too many cans, not enough room. I still have the pair of Sony MDR-V900's that I bought in 1998 and the Porta-Pros that I got so long ago that I can't even remember when.

I'd leave with the HE-500. :p

I will leave with HE500!  Simply because to my ears and my preference, HE500 is the all rounder while HD800 is not.

Having both,  I know exactly when to reach for the HD800 and when not to.  ;)

I already have HE-500's and could use a pair of HD800's.

^ Tough choice, but I think I would leave with the HD-800 and sell it for a HE-6

I sold my HE-500 after I found the Beyer T1 is a way better all-rounder headphones, also much more comfortable than the HE-500.

The HD800 is the best for some certain genres, IMO.

To me a perfect all-rounder headphones must be comfortable too, I want to use it for hours and in this case I even prefer the HD600 to HE-500.
