Let's put it this way.  The GS-X mk2 has over 600% more power than either... yes for your listening level... you're fine.

Frank, kudos to you for taking the time to write this review. I was on the waiting list for the next batch of the GS-X Mk-2. But I really adored the sound on my WA5 (coupled with HE6 in particular). I do not think it could get any better. So it is really interesting (and somewhat relieving) to hear that WA5 in the same league as GS-X. This coincides with private comments another headfier here who owns both. I do not need two top tier dynamic amps (especially if they sound similar, something you perhaps have yet to comment on in respect of the HD800).

Coincidentally, I changed my order with Justin a few days ago to a BHSE and did not look back!

On a side note, I must say that my SR009 paired with the Stax SRM007Ta is not much of an upgrade from the HE6/WA5 combo, but more of a side-grade. Slightly disappointed here but I will be patiently waiting for the BHSE...biggrin.gif

While ( IMO ) both the GS-Xmk2 and BHSE are excellent amps, the advantage with the GS-X over the BHSE is there are a lot more dynamic headphones to choose from, however although my LCD-XC / GS-Xmk2 combo give me amazing SQ, when I'm wanting to hear the best SQ, ( for me ) I always go to my 009 / BHSE.

LOL, the wait has just started.  Don't worry, it's worth it.

Frank,

Thanks for an excellent review.  Can you provide a little insight between the HD800 running in balanced out of GSX vesurs single-ended out of the Woo 5?  I know that the GS-X MKII with the HD800 is outstanding but how about compared to the Woo.  Several years back (maybe five years), I auditioned the WA5 with Sophia princess tube and thought highly of it.

How is OPPO BDP-105D as a source to  GS-X MK2? is a decent one for match to hd800 and lcd2?

The BDP 105 is excellent for bothy the HD800 and LCD2 . The ESS dac  is special and the analog output is well designed. i really love what the Oppo brings to the table.
