The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread - Page 121

+1 on Ayre QB DSD with GSX. I picked up a used QB9 and am on the list to get the DSD upgrade. I think this would be a nice match. The Ayre DAC sounds great plus offers a balanced out so it should mate nicely with GSX. Sound? TBD.

I had the opportunity to try my QB-9 with Justin's GS-X MK2 at the Denver Meet.  Ran it single ended with my cables to minimize any variables from what I normally listened to - the combo was impressive.  Justin also listened to it.  I ended up ordering a GS-X.  Seems like Justin bought a QB-9!

Natural sounding would be my description of the non DSD QB-9 - it gets voices right.  And with the GS-X MK2 and LCD3, incredible detail.  By the few reviews I have seen, the DSD version offers a significant improvement in sound quality.

Hopefully sometime in the next few months I'll be listening to a fully balanced QB-9 DSD -> GS-X MK2 -> LCD3.

Has anyone compared the GSX to the Luxman P1u?

Completely different sound.  p1u is not nearly as neutral and transparent

How does it compare to warm tubey amp like wa22 or stratus or somethin?

The P1u used to be the go to amp for the HD800 and I'll leave it at that.

I'll have my P1u tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how it compares against the ZDSE, WA5-LE, and a bunch of tried and failed ss amps that were probably similar to the GSX-like the Master 8. :)

I hope you find what your looking for. did you say that you have heard the GSX MK 2?

I have not. But if it's a wire with a gain like everyone around here loves to regurgitate-then I have-in the form of the Master 8. That's the ONLY amp I've ever heard that I would say has no colorations of it's own. Even than-it probably does.
