There are several of us out here who have been very happy with the GS-X driving the HD800. I have heard the HD800 with various "tuby" goodness, and found that I liked control and clarity without coldness that the GS-X delivered. Yes, there were a number of tube amps I liked with the HD800, my favorite was the EC Balancing Act, but over all I liked the sound (or is that lack of sound) of the GS-X, and certainly appreciate the simplicity of operation. I found the GS-X/HD800 in the same SQ league as KGSSHV/Stax SR-007s and second only to my favorite pair which is the BH/SR-009. Given relative costs, and that I can use the HD800 portably with the likes of the Pico Power and HiFi-M8, it was a strait-forward decision for me to lock in on the GS-X and HD800 and use the rest of my money for *gasp* things besides headphones.

Mark;

     Thanks for the feedback, I have not heard the GS-X personally and can only share my experience thus far with other solid state amps in their feel/signature versus the tube amps I've listened to.  And owning the HD800.....I have never enjoyed them without fatigue over extended periods.....shockingly changing the cable helped tone things down a bit (this really surprised me, only cable I've ever used that made a definitive difference, I usually buy cables for better build quality and aesthetics for the most part) but it will still too much with the solid state amps I had before.  The more I hear people describe the GS-X the more confident I am that the key with this amp is going to be without a doubt the source.

For anyone interested I reviewed  Justin Power Pico hereHeadAmp Pico Power Portable Headphone Amplifier Review

It's already over three months since I paid the deposits.

I know Justin may busy in assembling BHSE right now.

But I still want to know is that possible receiving the amp before the end of this year?

Nice review Frank. The Pico Power sounds like another winner for Justin.

Probably. Let's see what happens by November. Expect January or February and be pleasantly surprised with a Christmas gift. Good things are in the works ...

I spoke with Justin the other day and he is waiting for the face plates to come back from anodizing.  He said the assembly could go quickly once he has these assuming no other glitches.  The BHSE and GS-X mk 2 will ship at about the same time.  Of course it will depend on where you are in the queue but my impression is that the last orders will ship about 2-3 months after the first orders -- but that's my guess.

Justin said he would know more about the schedule once he gets the face plates back.   Let's hope they come back without 'issues'.  Recently I had to replace the face plate on a SACD player because the anodizing rubbed off on my fingers!  :eek:

Greetings all.  Just put a deposit down on a black GS-X mk2.  Justin indicated that there were still some units left in the current batch.  Exciting...been thinking about this amp for a long, long time.

Welcome! I see we will be starting out the forthcoming GS-X journey with the same cans.

Thank you!  Yes, I love my HD650 and HD600.  I will certainly start the GS-X journey with them and will likely add the HD800 later.  I've owned the HD800 before with the SPL Auditor and could never warm to that combination.  I guess I'm finally far enough along in my headphone journey to realize it's okay to love the HD650/600 even if they are "inferior" cans... :D

The DAC side of the equation is going to be tougher.  I really liked the DAC2 when I spent some time with it but am also looking at the QB-9DSD.  I realize the number of people running the GS-X mkII is still small in an absolute sense, and it looks like many of those that do have them possess financial resources to own some amazing sources.  I don't want to turn this back into a DAC thread but if anyone out there is running the GS-X mkII with the Benchmark or Ayre, please feel free to comment!

Can any owner of the GS-X mkII post the exact measurements of the individual chassis?  I am going to build a little rack for the amp while I'm waiting and I want to make sure it fits well.  Thank you!
