The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread - Page 114

i have some questions about the new gs-x mk2, hopefully current owners can help me answer? thanks.

- the loop out, is it passive, or the amp has to be on to get loop out signal

- if i use rca input, do i get signal out of the balanced xlr outputs (do i get any from headphone xlr out, preamp xlr out, and loop xlr out)

- the other way, if i use xlr balanced input, do i get signal out of single ended outputs (1/4" headphone and rca outs)

hmm, been kinda thinking of just going for a GSX2 and keeping WA2 for the T1 since i love their synergy so much, and basically all my other headphones (planars and fostex), seem to sound as good with solid state as tubes.... hmm...

think the mytek 192 would be good with gsx2?

Do it!! You and I could be in the next batch together and share the wait haha

i hate waiting, its the reason i haven't gone for the DNA Stratus or maybe a top end woo either...

Ya same here. Thing is these top amps are so good and in such limited numbers (stratus especially) that the wait is pretty much inevitable, because used ones rarely if ever come up. And when they do they get snatched up faster than I can check my bank balance to see if I've got the cash

yeah,

i would probably go for the WA5, but i haven't heard it, and not sure how it would do with LCD-3 and HE-6.

Screw the Woo (unless you desire euphonic toobiness).

Get the GS-X! Wait for it......wait for it....

ideally i would own 1 very very good tube amp, and 1 very very good SS amp.

obviously the GSX2 seems like the very very good SS amp. before this came out, i was interested in the dark star, but seems like its overpriced. and then i briefly heard the new cavalli amp with Abyss and LCD-3, nothing special imo.

Stratus has 11 amps out in the wild.  Between the Reference, GS-X and GS-X mk2 there are roughly a hundred in the wild.  Once this batch is out the door, 90 of mk2 alone.

The photos are of a wood burning stove I've just had installed, and the reason I'm showing that is because if the GS-X wasn't available in Silver, and that exact colour and finish was, then that's what I'd go for. In fact I'd be happy if all my audio gear had that colour and finish.

That might be an interesting clean industrial way to do large amps and the like.

Cast iron hifi? Is this for the heavy metal aficionados or everyone who loves heavy hifi?

This would be a perfect world. I second your sentiments on the Dark Star and did a lot of research comparing RSA to HeadAmp. RSA has a great rep, and I don't want to talk trash here at all, so let me just state a simple fact. The RSA SS amps that compare in price to the GS-X are all based on an opamp design (I know the Apache is; pretty sure the DA is too [also unclear if the DA is full dual mono like the Apache and GS-X). For a serious wad of cash on a desktop amp, I'd go with non op amp discrete circuitry all the way. That's just my preference.

Did the third batch already sell out? Seems like it was just yesterday I signed up ... (it was back in July ... time flies ... the wait isn't too bad!).

Both I guess? Although you would have to use aluminum to avoid making a giant magnet.

I'm only referring to the colour and finish and not the metal. Obviously the metal used for the amp would be Aluminium not Cast Iron.

i would have to look up the exact number of Gilmore Reference amps, but i'd say around 5 or 6. The original GS-X around 60 over 6 years. The GS-X mk2, 30 shipped so far and 60 more being built now. So, in the wild, a max of about 95
