I have a few audiophile friends and none of them carry a stack thicker than 1 1/2 inches, usually an iPod strapped to a Fiio. I did that too for a while before the novelty of it wore off under the nuance of babying it for the sake of the connections. It didn't fit in my skinny jeans either. It makes sense to take a nice setup out if you're going on a long trip but otherwise I leave it at home.
I just stash all of my stuff in their own cases and throw them into a pouch in backpack along with my laptop whenever I go anywhere that way I do not have to be concerned with the size of things but I usually keep things small and portable as much as possible.
I bought a belt-bag which could fit an iPod with AlgoRhythm Solo and Continental V2. When I'm not using it I keep the cables in the front pocket while my IEMs are in a shoulder bag.
