You will get sick of head-fi - Page 2

Thanks for the advice.  I did the audiophile thing years ago before I had kids and had quite a system at one time so I know the research and the slippery slope very well.  Now that I have kids, the headphone solution is really the best way to get back into it.   In some ways I'm kinda looking forward to taking a little tumble again. tongue.gif

Can't beat a good headphone setup when you got kids sleeping next door. Good luck on this journey, it will be a fun and cash draining one.ksc75smile.gif

Absolutely. Nothing like sitting back, headphones on and escaping at the end of the day. Us parents need it!

It's all so.........digital! ;)

Sick?

Life has it's ebbs and flows. Heck, I guess you could get bored after starting to feel satisfied with the rig you ended up putting together from information here.

I would guess that is definitely true though. If you look at all the old-timers that were here from the start or even 2008, a huge percent have moved on. So you may have a point.

It's a lot of different things for different people and every personal trajectory in going to be different. The folks I see having the most fun are giving advice and sharing in the noobie fun, from just joining and finding out there is more to headphones than the standard consumer offerings.

Many choose to get sick of simple posted questions, but we have all been there.

I think that there is never been a time with more cost effective toys to try out. This hobby can be effectively enjoyed just by learning about how great every $100 headphone is. The only hurdle is to get out of your own paradigm of understanding of what perfection in headphone sound is.

There is always a new way to get excited about the musical gear hobby. I have built small recording studios. I have always had some kind of new equipment to mess with. It's all just tinkering in the end, so it never gets old.

As humans were never in the hallway of anything for too long.

Also, I think you get more excited the further down the chain you are. Like the first time I heard 650's or 225's I had some wow moments. The higher up you go  the less wow moments you have because there are only subtle improvements. My LCD2's for example, certainly didn't wow me at all, but grew and grew on me and now they are my faves. I think your first proper decent set up is the one you remember most and that really gets you hooked into this hobby. Mine was some Senn595's and a Creek amp, super pro dac. Haaa they were the days! Make no mistake, I've still a long way to go..

I also think the hardcore on here are people who relate to each other, so in that sense its a bit more than just a hobby. It's nice just to chat to like minded peeps.

I think most of us have a lot of music, but thats also the key.

Try out new music, its also a way to have new experiences.

Basically I still enjoy Head Fi as long as I don't stick with any thread too long.biggrin.gif Like a shark, I gotta keep moving!

However I am thoroughly sick of the ego and posturing and arrogant condescension rampant in the Science Fiction Forum.frown.gif

Admittedly I don't post much in it, for that very reason. But boy, I enjoy the hell out of reading it.

I'm fairly obsessed with posting my opinion.

Yeah I had a spell on there about a year ago, just made me furious. mad.gif Forums always have the peeps that think they are cleverer than anyone else. But they keep forgeting thats its only their opinion that they are projecting; it's subjective no matter how objective or relative they think they are bei.. (right I'll stop now)

The funniest thing about the science forum is most scientists stay away. Science fiction indeed!

While I agree with you, I'll say these are things that motivate a lot of people, and for good or bad, help them make decisions in a lot of areas in life.

I've stayed away from the science forum so far. I remember lurking at HA for a little while, and they didn't strike me as the most pleasant lot. Rather confrontational and demanding of "proof" of everything. I'm assuming it's like that in our science forum since of course I've never seen it.

It's sad because I tend to lean more toward the objective side of audio, but when it becomes more about having a confrontational attitude than it is about trying to objectively quantify sound, that's where you lose me. I'll swear up and down that if you can't prove that you can hear it then it doesn't exist, but being "right" about that kind of stuff isn't a priority of mine, and it's not worth getting into endless circular arguments or flame wars over.

If people think their $490,087,920,094 cable makes a difference, whatever. I'll happily save the $490,087,920,093 and buy a diamond-encrusted aircraft carrier. Or 492,550,673.46 LCD-2s.

I laughed, I cried, I applauded.

This too. The confrontational attitude and never-ending flame wars (or how did Jude put it back in 2001? "never-ending death spiral of vitriol" or something like that?) - over what? Oh yes, to be "right" or "cool" on the Internet. Because disagreeing with everything and everyone just to be "edgy" is of course what we should all aspire to...ph34r.gif

Oh, and I want to see this half trillion dollar vessel when it's finished.
