So know how I said I was gonna get the S500 at the same time as the FXZ200? There is NO excuse for me NOT to. On Amazon Japan the HA-S500 is less than $40.

haha i am tempted to grab a new pair in gunmetal color myself, let us know how much shipping/ handling is in total for the S500s and the FXZs. Might have to try out tenso as well.

hmmmm, thanks! It's about $20 or 1,690 yen for 168g (S500) or 11g (FXZs) total tenso fee. I wonder if lump all your packages together in one shipment it would probably be cheaper, let us know Apo0 of you got them together or separate orders.

I got one charge when I ordered my FXZ100 and FXZ200 together.

i think it may be more

you have to take the package weight, not only the iem weight 

the package for the fxz is 454 g, which is already $24 for shipping to north america

So, I had a chance to do a bit more listening to the 200s.  when i got them, they had the medium tips pre-installed and they seemed to fit me well, even though i always use large tips, whether Comply, Hybrids, silicones, etc....  i'd read that the 200s didn't isolate that well, so i never gave it a second thought.....  This morning i put the large tips on, and gave them another listen.  Wow!!!!   they are getting better and better - with the large tips i can use a shallower insertion without having to give up bass response (they've got plenty to spare!) and can have a giant, well defined headstage and more even timbre and tonality.  Now i have even less reason to open up the 100s, if i can wait to hear ericp10s pair  at some point down the road. 

No question, these are very good, the question remains - how good?.  More to follow.

Well, i guess the prices are about the same on ebay for the S500s if shipping is like $25 for just tenso. Probably best to get more than 1 item, so cost of shipping is lower and faster arrival as well.

Right.. I think at the time when I got my S500s the Amazon price was $42, with Tenso the total was just under $70, I got mine on eBay for $77 shipped w/ EMS.  For cheaper/larger items it might not make as much sense.

I remember enraging a guy for reviewing cheapo gear.. "This kind of stuff don't belong at headfi." was the message. Well then how about some ground breaking mid fi stuff that belong with any serious collector of awesome sound? Unless something comes out that is gonna do one over these two at this cost. I would say both are worth every penny you guys are gonna spend..The cost is not cheap for many and I know this. But it will be one of those that if you have the goal of getting later after saving a bit will be worth the effort. For this sound and what JVC is asking for one is very doable. As I mentioned on the discovery thread.. Keep your eyes on the prize..

That's interesting, considering I've been here almost since the site's inception (I lurked for the first couple years) and one of the pretty typical head-fi staples at the time were KSC-35s and SR60s.  Those were like Head-fi rights of passage, almost everyone had either one or the other at some point.

The difference between back then and today is the amount of equipment at the extremes... having anything (whether it's amps, headphones, sources) sell for more than $1k was purely exotic, and the below $100 area was really slim.  Now we have not only good, but truly excellent (dare I say groundbreaking in ways) at seemingly all price points.  There's at least 10x as much gear out there as there used to be.  

Oh I agree. There is so much excellence in all price levels now a days I think it does take an open mind to try out budget stuff if your not used to that but the way I see it. We all start out at some point with some type of budget stuff, well most of us anyway..For value nothing beats great budget stuff. But once in a while when something truly amazing comes out.  I will call a spade a spade. These FXZs will be future classics. The very first 3 Dynamic that not only did it right from the get go but also innovated with 2 different sound signatures must be taken seriously from whatever level of audiophilism you are into.

ordered a set of these ....... wondering, i see the benefit of a 3way dynamic- taking the pressure off the mid driver by giving a separate driver for the lows, but would this apply to a BA design? and is there a 3-way BA iem out there that anyone has compared to these?

Sure The XBA-3. One of my faves and absolutely excellent if you can get one on sale. The FXZ100 have a similar balanced tuning but more natural sounding vs armatures. Armatures have better speed and has impeccable imagery and detail but the FXZs do it on a bigger grander scale which makes these an official upgrade in my book. That is why I suggested these instead.
