It's not at all - his opinion is as valid as any.   it's just several people who haven't heard them are now referencing that specific review like it's some sort of definitive word above the dozen+ other reports on this thread, which is just silly.

Don't get me wrong, I think alot of us are in agreement with much of what Nightcrawler is saying.  What I take issue is 1) alot of us have said many of the same things and 2) the overarching disagreement is the lack of versatility.

Why don't I agree with #2?  Because I've gone thru about $20k in gear over 10 years and by my standards this is one of most versatile things I've owned.  When they're wrong they're just too warm, but still it's cohesive.  With most things when they're wrong they're 'off'... maybe it's trending toward sibilance on poorly mastered stuff, perhaps a suckout in the lower mids, maybe male vocals are thin but female vocals sound great, staging/imaging is weird, take your pick.  I dare say JVC has a marvel of engineering on their hands.  

But of course nothing will please everyone.  My take, and *esp* given the price of these, is the hype is well deserved.  

All that said, there appears to be some *killer* stuff on the horizon at a similar price point.  If money is an issue I'd wait it out for sure.  Curiosity got the best of me on this one.

I don't think anyone has called incapable of anything and you're projecting a bit.

You have quoted the review in response to me not once, but twice, calling it "This seems a balanced perspective" (implying others are not) and saying " I guess you didn't see the link to the review section that called them VG but ultimately too weighty"

They also are not gong to sound like Revel Salons in the bass just because they both go low and nobody has heard 25 hz bass before, whatever that means. The thread has moved from info to poetic waxing which is OK but that doesn't mean that trying to get an idea of how bass enhanced they are is an unacceptable pursuit just because the suggestion of having perhaps more than real in balance offends those that want them to have exactly the correct amount. It's a quantitative question whose qualitative aspect will be quite personal.

I reckon you need to wait until you have a pair. I know where you are coming from though. I pretty much disliked all IEMs I tried until the XBA-3s. They were the first pair of IMEs I found to be listenable (without getting into the TG334s and I'm not game to put down for customs which I may end up regretting). The JVCs have been the second, but they have far too much bass for me, where the XBAs, while a bit over-blown, are closer to right for me with their FR. This is likely because of the music I like, which is mostly jazz at the moment, which doesn't want or need anywhere near as much bass as the 200s deliver.

So it is as I stated earlier: I reckon what they have achieved techology-wise is great, but if very bass-heavy IEMs aren't your cup of tea, then these wont be either.

That is pretty much the take I'm getting here. A bassy earphone that you don't need to be a bassheadto appreciate. I'll definitely give one or both a try at some point. I finally gave it up for some JH13s which I prefer to the bassier 16s. I don't expect as much from $200 IEMs and prefer extra bass to too little since on the go loses a bit. They do look a bit like Frankenstein had his bolts moved though, LOL.

I've had my set (200s)  a few days and have been listening to them off and on.

First the positive; These are my favorite IEMs so far (ATH CK10, TF10, Shure 500?, 535 are a few I've owned). They have an effortless quality during more complex passages that I have only heard from high quality full size headphones. I was concerned that these would be a one trick pony (bass) but that isn't true at all. I find the mids and highs to be just as good as the bass and all of it is very well integrated. The best soundstage I've personally heard from an IEM. My Red Giant A03 IEMs had a similarly wide soundstage but no depth. Definitely makes the soundstage on my Future Sonic Atrio M5s sound constricted.

The negative; I was really hoping these would be easily driven directly from my Iphone 4. The combination sounds ok but the bass is definitely uncontrolled and other parts of the performance tend to fall apart, especially when pushed harder. If I plug them into my Imac these things clear up. I guess I'm going to have to go back to a portable amp, something I thought I would never do.

Even if I do need a portable amp to get the most out of these I definitely think they are worth it. 

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and content they are substantial step up in all areas (except the ease with which they are powered) over my FS M5s.

Side note; the bass is definitely very loose and boomy right out of the box on these, as DSNuts has noted. I wouldn't judge them until they get some burn in.

So... is anyone getting the T-Peos H-200s once they hit the market?  I want to see the 200s pitted against the 200s.  

For the unfamiliar it's a triple hybrid, 1 dynamic 2 BAs, projected to be roughly the same price as the 200s.  I haven't experienced the H-100s but they have their own pretty powerful choo-choo on Head-fi.  And also the long-awaited GR08 (renamed 7007s) and the Maxell 700 hybrid cheapies look interesting.

No offense at all my friend. I was gonna say it will only be a matter of time before you heard the difference.

The thing is these don't sound too different from other bassy earphones on open box so that is where I thought you might have heard the similarities. It is when they get their burn in and start to open up is when they separate themselves.

@ Currawong. If you get a chance you need to try the FXZ100. Think somewhere in the middle of the XBA-3 and the FXZ200  for bass and dynamics. If you get a chance I would try them I think you might actually enjoy them for Jazz more so than the FXZ200.

Congrats rick! Looking very much forward to your contribution to the hype train lol!

I'm sure I'll be getting them one of these days. For the time being, I'm happy getting re-aquainted with my very comfy and awesome sounding hm5 padded s500's (and I get to look forward to the ele dac if it ever gets here too). And my xba3's and tdk mt300's continue to put smiles on my face. So I'm content for the time being (although reading this thread challenges that lol!). One thing that gives me pause for thought is that I am reading that the fxz200's seem to need a lot to drive them. That wouldn't be the end of the world since I just got the e11 and could use that, but it would be nice if they could be powered sufficiently straight from the sgs2 and clip zip. Also, I want to be sure that they sound and fit well hanging down (ie not over the ears). I have seen posts stating that it they work fine hanging down, but I'm gonna keep on the lookout for more impressions. But I'm sure that resistance will once again be useless :)

haha, thought you banned yourself from head-fi rick.  I will get them eventually, they are my 1ST next BIG PURCHASE for sure so it's a HUGE step for me $$$ wise, but I got to do some house cleaning 1st. Just got another set of used S500s and the HM5 pads coming in, and recently received the cheapo monoprice iems/ the RHA iem from the S500 contest so i am happy/ preoccupied. Man do those cheapo monoprice iem sound good, was really surprised/ liked them a lot more than the thermaltake Tts for sure. The RHA's are damn good as well, more to come in the discovery thread.
