In terms of sound, the HD555 loses easily. But for precision it loses really badly. But back to comfort. Like I said, I just can't get over the fact that the ears touch the rims of the pads. My ears fit perfectly inside the HD555s. Not once has my HD555s ever given me a headache from use except for once when I wore them for 9 hours. I've only had these headphones for not even a day and I am seriously considering selling these just cause they aren't comfortable for me.

I guess it's all subjective because i own the hd 555's,

and i really think the Ad900x blows them away in terms of comfort imo.  (hd555-comfy vs ad900x-I want to sleep with these on as a pillow)

but yea sennheiser's open headphones are really comfortable too, but this is my first open headphone with ath.

Bam.    I am on day 3 of listening.  So I burned them in 6 hrs the 1st night, and then for the last few days, I've gotten to listen to them maybe 4 - 6 hrs a day.  (I have a really nice job for that.)  So I've hit maybe 20 hrs, and gosh darn it, if they haven't indeed started to open up some!  Much more listenable now.  More balanced.  When I first heard them out of the box, I was really curious about the AD1000x.  Now ... I'm less curious about those, and I'm simply enjoying the AD900x's.

I think it was just the pads touching the ears is what makes them uncomfortable for me. Sure the pads on the AD900x are soft but like I said, they touch my ears and cause me to get a headache for unknown reasons. My 555s don't touch them at all.

I just ordered the AD500X (along with the CKN70's) from CDJapan. I adore my A500X so I have no doubts that the open version will sound even better (even though it is the lowest model in the new line-up). AT has done produced some pretty incredible lower-priced stuff so I'm definitely excited to hear these. I'll post some impressions when they arrive.

really starting to enjoy these (the ad900x) alot more than the first day (which really left me unimpressed).

I feel the bass has increased (or more noticable?)

the separation is more apparent.

Listening to Pretty Hate Machine on the A900X is pure bliss.

I might state at this point, I would really love it if someone bought my pair of AD900X's from me. :D

Why, what's up with them?

Nothing. Just like the MA900 better and find it more comfortable. I want to sell the AD900X and maybe put the money towards an AD1000X or something.

I can't comment on the ad700,

but I do like and feel the soundstage is solid for the ad900x.

And the bass is good enough for most music (I've heard the ad900 had nonexistent bass).
