There are some recordings that have a bit of a "lo-fi" production that don't sound good at all, but in general everything sounds very nice to me. Very even, lots of detail, not too wide a soundstage so there is still enough of that in your face almost grado like quality.

Yeah they sound really amazing with a good bass boost, the E12 with bass boost on pairs really well with it too.

Ah, I didn't realize you also had an E12, akarise. Is it the one with the sub or mid bass boost? Regardless, really looking forward to more of your impressions and comparisons since I and a few other people also have the AD900x/E12 combo.

I just pulled the trigger on a AD2k which should be arriving within a day biggrin.gif So I'll be sure to post my own thoughts, as well. I might be interested in getting a 2kx in the future just to see the difference...

(sorry, wallet...)

Thanks for that impression Aka!

Gah... I keep wanting to try the AD2000X. It beckons -___-

It's the mid bass boost version. I wish I could've gotten the sub bass version but I wasn't interested in getting one until after those were all gone =/ I'm quite happy with the mid bass boost version though. Been wondering if I should get a higher end amp and dac to pair with the AD2KX but I don't know if it's worth it seeing as I only have 320 kbps mp3s.

Oh that's awesome, I'm looking forward to your comparisons too! If you get both, all you'll need is an additional AD1KX and then we'll have all the comparisons this thread needs haha.

All you have to do is sell your AD1000X and then get it for yourself! biggrin.gif

Loving your frequent headphone video reviews btw, wonder why more people don't do those.

Because we're hideous! Look away! lol

Anybody here ever try the a900x's? I know they're closed cans... i'm looking into getting a pair, how do they stack up against the AD900x's? There's isn't many reviews on them and no english video reviews at all lol

I've been reading around for decent amp pairings for the AD2k, which I assume might also work for the AD2kx, but pickings seems kinda slim :/ There's the discontinued Dynalo, the Beta22, and I think the Schiit Lyr that are mentioned to pair really well, but the 2k/x are such efficient phones that they don't demand complementary amp, anyway. I've been eyeing the Ifi iCan for a while now and plan on getting it in a few months and hopefully that's a happy marriage.

You know, I'm not gonna lie, but I'm still curious about the 1kx sound... (sigh)

From what I've read, seems like they're just a closed AD900x? Though, I'm not sure how accurate that is because the AT sound for the ADxxxx line is a bit different from the previous iteration and the Axxxx line is a few years old already.

I wouldn't sell my AD1000X to get the AD2000X, I need them side by side to compare. Then I would sell one or both, depending on how I feel lol. I have had my eyes on a Beyerdynamic T90 recently...

As for the videos, it actually takes a fair amount of effort to do them and so far beyond people's compliments (which is awesome) it hasn't exactly translated into anything awesome. I started them really just because I wanted to improve my skills with videoing / presentation and also to maybe have my collection pay for itself at least just a little bit.

I really should ask for a pair of those to review. I might be able to swing it with AT :)

While I have never heard them side by side, I really don't think they sound all that similar...

^ yeah, I would figure so, anyway, just because of the amount of time between the release of the A900x and the AD900x. I feel like I've seen the A900x talked about quite a bit here and on /r/headphones on Reddit, but comparisons are definitely rare, except for maybe the one somewhere in this thread?

Oh, a redditor! Tell me, how active is the headphones reddit?

It's somewhat active. I've been subbed for a few months now and /r/headphones is mostly recommendations about low to mid range headphones/iems and the occasional post about the typical big names (Beyers, HE-400/500, Schiit amps, O2/ODAC, mods, Audez'e, etc). Oh, and the M50. I much prefer the HF community on account of the sheer amount of content and much more active threads.

How much of an improvement is the AD700X over the original (horrible sounding) AD700? Might grab a few for gaming.

You go first :)

Really loving the 1000x right now though, hardly touched the ad900x since I got them.

Hmm I'm not really a DIY type of person and the Lyr is too big for my current desk lol. I'm interested in getting a tube amp though since I haven't tried any before. The iCan looks intriguing with it's bass boost and soundstage function, I wonder if it does something similar to the C&C BH, which I've been wanting to pair with the WS99. I guess it's probably best that I just enjoy my current setup for now though, wallet has been hurting too much lately...

Upon closer inspection of the AD2KX, I realized that the frame is actually metal as they felt cold to the touch when I woke up this morning. The box, which I didn't really read when I opened it, says that it is a magnesium alloy. I believe that the only part of the headphone that isn't metal are the wings, although I could again be wrong. Pleasantly surprised and now feel like my money was even more well spent!

Just curious, can anyone confirm if the AD1KX has a metal frame as well?
