All of you complaining about the grain, just try to remove the foam, which can be found under the grill. It's a 7mm thick one, after you remove it, you'll be surprised smily_headphones1.gif It will sound much cleaner, in all areas, with an even endless sound. Of course it will be somewhat brighter, so maybe it needs something there, like a thinner foam or some driver dampening on the back side, but the clarity is well worth it, just try it if you can smily_headphones1.gif

I believe it has to do something with the W1000X, which has significantly more bass than W1000, and some were speculating that X series will continue this tradition. I don't know much about the smaller ones, like A900X, so don't know if the analogy works in general regarding the closed line.

but thats the problem, if i remove the original foam, it will be even brighter. ad700 is already very bright too.

i will gather some courage and then remove the foam and test. depdending on the results i will let it that way or put it back

Still no word. I'm trying to book a different appointment. Bugger. I'll come back when I have word. Sorry for the wait. By the way, I tried them out, but it was loud at the store. Very very nice. Finally, a headphone apart from the ESW11LTD that I'd consider purchasing.

you would think, for being in the Audiophile line, wouldn't they at least TRY to give it more bass, to make it BALANCED which is the audiophile goal. I guess no more bassy ad700 for me.

the drivers are indeed pretty damn capable. While i can't vouch for the AD700, i have an AD900 myself which i have replaced the earpads with the w5k leather ear pads and that brought out the bass a LOT (in addition to having a govibe peak amp with bass boost on)

and due to an issue i had earlier today, i actually opened up the entire headphone and it was fairly simple too... just 4 screws and you're done

just be very careful on the wires/cables on the side with them (ad900 only has exterior cables on 1 side and routes the other one via the headband so top/bottom of the driver basically)

I think that's the studio goal, most Audio Technica's have intentional colour.

For anyone living outside of Japan, imports are already available. CD Japan ships to virtually any country in the world. They don't have the AD2000X though.

xp oh shigzeo, please DO buy and review the ESW11LTD (says my selfish hart, tongue-in-cheek style) I'd love to hear a report by you on those as an ESW9 fan.
