VentureCraft new DDC/DAC Go-DAP DD Socket 1 product - Page 34

post #496 of 594
I paired ak100 with all the gear j had on me and it did not pair to my liking to most of my gears. So sold it. I only had the ak100 model than moved to ak120 which is clearly better than ak100.

The MK2 is 3 ohms like the AK120, so that will change things a bit.  However, getting the MK2 for the DD makes no sense to me, as you are only replacing the already excellent Wolfson 4870 with the AK4353 and an Line Amp, then you still need to get another Amp for the rig.

Can anybody confirm the output impedance for the OPA627.

Then I will go with the AK100 mk2 then since the dac is just as good as the DD plus I'll also end up having a much more portable setup.

i was comparing an idevuce stack that cost the same as ak120 agaist ak120. Also when i used the ak100 as a pure source i like dd socket 1 much more than the ak100.

I think the 22ohm output of the AK100 has a big impact on the sound unless paired with high impedance headphones more than 180ohms. To me, the AK100 is a flawed dap since it is designed to be used with portable headphones on the go yet because of the high output impedance, changes the sound signature. High impedance headphones are also not so good due to the lack of power from the amp.

I also don't understand why Venturecraft don't list the output impedance on some of their products such as the DD socket. I mean even this point, we'll can only assume its 16ohms based on the Go-DAP X. Not good enough IMO

I'm confused why you're seeking for the Zout of the DD. It's a source only which you'll need to feed into an external amp of your choice. Isn't it that amp's Zout that's important?

What is Zout?

post #506 of 594

Yes I know it's a source only and will be pairing with a amp. So the output impedance of any dac won't matter, signal will be the same when output to an amp? Sorry for my ignorance but I've never bought a stand alone dac before, only a amp or dac/amp combo.

Depends, most amps gave input impedance requirement that need to be less than that value. The value is normally so high that we don't need to worry about it.

Thanks for the info audionewbi! I shall keep this in mind.

Dont worry about it, it is always in really high values that should never matter. For example headamp pico portable amplifier requires is 50 Kohms which means any input less than that is fine. I believe they call this impedance bridging.

Once again I am no professional, I just like reading about this stuff.

At the end it comes down to preference. And as Anakchan has said since DD socket 1 is only a source we shouldnt care much about its output impedance if we are worried about impedance issue with our IEM. DD socke 1 needs an amp and therefore its output impedance is not that important.

Zout = Z out = output impedance (Z).
