i knew AKM chip used (assuming it is the same DAC chip used) has much more potential. I for one hope that this unit has an output impedance of less than 1. Truth be told I was thinking about trying out the AK120 but this has changed my plans a lot.

Based on the output power on their site, I pretty sure that this one is high output impedance.

I've decided to attend the Spring Headphone Festival in Tokyo, so I'll ask them about output impedance of Typhoon.

If they still stick to AKM, only a few DAC chips on their list are capable to handle DSD. Current AKM 4353 is not DSD supported.

That would be great, looking forward to your impression.

Can you ask them if they are going to include the metal cap OPA627 version too , I know they might say no but please try to get as much information as possible. My feeling is that they might make the Typhon limited edition with the OPA627SM.

New headphone amp that can do DSD. VentureCraft "SounDroid Typhoon"

This is insane.

Alright, what are the details?  How does one in the US get this?

Can someone explain what dsd is? I tried google and they get into a whole new speech lingo and I end up becoming more confused...

DSD or Direct Stream Digital is just another way to store your music. Theoretically, DSD should be able to reproduce impulse response mimicking analog signal better than PCM format that use in Audio CD.

This typhoon unit has my attention..looks promising. Can't wait to get more details/listening impressions.

So the SounDroid Typhoon (AnakChan, you gotta talk to them about this lame naming), the main differentiation is DSD? I personally think the market size for DSD-support is quite small but that's just my guess.

I like the volume knob in the Typhoon.

I still dont like those small fragile switches.

I don't think they consult me for naming conventions anymore. The Socket 1 DD was sorta by me last year prior to release (i.e. they presented some names to me and I thought "Yeah, Socket 1 DD sounds good!"). Then back in Feb/March they said to me, "Hey, no one calls it Socket 1 but just DD in the forums, including you!".

I've finally written up my thoughts on the 9V OPA627 DD Socket 1 :-

http://www.head-fi.org/products/go-dap-dd-socket1-dd-da-converter-for-iphone-ipod-lineamp-opa627-9vuptune/reviews/9000

I'll have to admit it's not my best work there. Personally I would have preferred to review the 12V LE OPA627SM which blew me a away but as no one can buy them anymore, I wrote the review based on the 9V DD instead.

Aside: A little fun fact...over the past 4 weeks I bought/reserved 4x12V LE OPA62SMs :p. 1xrudi0507, 1xmyself, and 2xVisceriousZERO. I should ask VentureCraft how many OPA627SM they actually made.

Part of me still hopes one day I could purchase the LE opa627sm some how , for now I just wait for ak120 but there is no doubt that LE coupled with portaphile will produce the ultimate on the go setup that will challenge many desktop amp. You guys really have something special in your hand.

They made about 35 of OPA627SM, so you bought about 11% of total production. bigsmile_face.gif

I am not happy with you guys right now... you cost me a lot of money! I guess that you all owe me an apology! wink.gif

A 12V LE OPA627SM is on its way in the mail (and a mini-mini luxury short cable, and a luxury 30pin-USB digital short audio cable), and I am so looking forward to paring it with my JDS Labs C5 and my iPod Touch (4G).

I can't wait!! But I have to though.. and while waiting.. I have to mention the excellent customers service I got from VentureCraft. They rock! beyersmile.png
