Woah, I actually may bite on this until I get my Whiplash one from Craig. I'm getting a little heated because he doesn't seem to like to answer emails anymore, after I ordered. mad.gif

Whiplash are like arrow amp products, they take long to come to you but once it arrives they truly satisfying. While I do not agree with Whiplash reference product prices I have seen them disected and they seem to require fine craft man ship and use some high quality parts.

I have my eyes on venturcraft mini-mini. They look incredibly durable. I love my oyadie but I wish it a tad too long.

I like these too. Looks like a pretty stout cable.

Where are these sold? Don't see them for sale anywhere.

I'm currently doing some listening to this stack (the Glacier isn't mine, but borrowed). The DD is the 627SM, but yesterday I ran out to buy Muses01 & 02 OpAmps to do some pre-amp OpAmp rolling.

They are only solid in japan however you can ask them to sell it to you, It is not cheap, hence why I am waiting for them to turn up somewhere on the net at a cheaper rate.

The glacier stacks really nicely on the socket 1. I always wanted to purchase it but got carried away on other stuff. I doubt I ever buy it as I do not need the DAC and dislike paying for a feature I know I will not us.
I am really happy with the MHd-Q7 and DD socket 1. I am hoping that they offer 12 V mod in future and battery upgrade, I am not convinced that the PCB is modified, I am sure the only thing that is changed is the casing.

Congrats Sean for your new go dap dd1 op amp 627 SM
I am sorry because of me you bought for your self go dap dd1 op amp 627 SM biggrin.gif

I think for op amp muse 01 and muse 02 , you need to buy different socket for op amp rolling ,
Because op amp 627 SM socket is different from our BLUE go dap dd1 socket .

Yep, I always wanted to try the 627SM but didn't want to buy just to try. So buying for you gave me an opportunity to "try before you buy" before shipping it to you. I went back to the shop yesterday with my 627SM to compare against the Muses01/02 and to be honest though, I still can't say the 627SM sounds better than Muses01/02. There is something special about Muses01/02 still.

I talked to VentureCraft before buying the Muses01/02 chips and they said it'll be fine. Note that the 627SM is sitting on a daughterboard which is then regular dual inline socket. So you just have to remove the 627SM & daughterboard and plug the Muses01/02 chips in.

Don't get rid of your Muses02 yet.

Edit: Actually looking through the threads, I actually did manage to audition the 627SM during its prototype back in Feb but couldn't post/share it with anyone (until March when it was announced) :-

Mine was delivered today. Glad it's packed well considering as I opened the door for the delivery guy I saw him throw the package about 10ft onto my porch! Still waiting for it to fully charge, but I did listen to it for about an hour. Bass, soundstage, highs....everything is much improved over just a LOD out of the ipod. Currently have it connected to a JDS labs C5.

That's pretty much the same setting as mine.

Going into the C5 do you have yours set on high or low gain? I don't have the LE so I'd have to open it to switch it to low gain. Wondering if it's even worth the effort (I'd have to buy the tool).

My fitear MH335DW is very sensitive. With high gain on Socket 1, I only need to set the volume to 2 out of 64 on low gain. I always set Socket 1 to low. With that I barely go pass 10 on volume.

Actually I also owned Socket 1 blue model too. Need to set the gain switch to low also. With high gain, my normal listening level is barely reach 15% volume on ALO the National.

Typically you always want to you the lowest gain setting possible, even if you have to use the volume pot past where most people are comfortable with. When you use low gain, you reduce the risk of noise distortion and some problems that might occur with channel imbalance. There are some other more technical issues that go along with high gain, but if you are using efficient headphones or earphones that don't require much power, low gain is definitely going to perform better.

Which OpAmp is your DD again? OP275, Muses01/02, 627AU, or 627SM?

I'm curious about the C5 pairing actually. The Glacier isn't mine but on loan and I'm trying to decide between the Glacier, C5, Portaphile 627, Vorzuge Duo, etc.
