I think they are having that only for display purposes. It seems like they have modded their older models to 12 V and increased the prices a good 10000 Yen

They are providing a free high quality connectors too.

You should try the JDS Labs C5 because it's quite black for IEMs and is designed primarily for IEMs (no imbalance at low volumes.)

Just kidding. It didn't come with the battery. biggrin.gif

I think they also use new PCB, switch to thin film resistor and new high quality capacitor too. Battery size also 50% increase. That can justify the 20000 yen increase in price.

I also heard about it and want to try it too. I don't think any store in japan has it display.

I think this is limited edition.

Yes it is. They only will be selling it for Japan market only and will only ship few outside. Sadly the older DD sockets 1 cannot be shipped to have them upgraded. My guess is the PCB design is different.

Even if I was able to sell my current DD socket 1 at the exact same price I bought it I still need another 300 AUD. O well too bad, I am sure it will sound great.

The reason why I like this a lot is because of the OPA627. Paired with argubly the best single ended portable amp there is in the market (portaphile 627) I think it will make a portable reference that will challenge desktop setups.

One thing that I am disappointed with the new edition is at that price range they should have enabled USB DAC. The AKM chip can support 24/96 easily. I have a feeling for future revision they might be doing that.

The reason why so many are going to -db in my view is because it is also a computer DAC.

Also I gotta add...every now and then my dd would freeze up. At first I thought it was my iPod. It would play for a good 10-15 songs no problem and then sometimes it would freeze the iPod at 0:00 play time. It will not play even if you press skip or back to previous song. The only thing would reset it is to hold menu+center button together to reset the iPod. If the iPod freezes and you turn the dd off, the light on the switch will just stay red and not turn off.i also found out that after disconnecting the iPod, the iPod will resume and play the song when not connected to the dd. plugging it back into the dd will reset the dd and everything goes back to normal. I'm assuming its the dd that's freezing up, not the ipod. Anyone else came across this problem? One day I will take my gopro and try to make a video of this to show you guys...

I'm gonna get the -db because it has the balanced option. And I'm curious to how that sounds...

Has this issue been reported to VentureCraft? Probably specs of iPod version, OS version, what kind of files, etc.

I may PM them about it too.

No I haven't reported this to venturecraft...it has only happened with my 3rd gen iPod nano. Ver. 1.1.3 pc. It's been a while since I've updated it. Hasn't happened with my 160gb classic yet...I'll try to update both to current versions and see if it still happens.im hoping this isn't because of me swapping out for a new op amp.

Wow.

I was considering picking up one of these to do my own personal shoot-out with the Fostex, Sony and CLAS but my head is swimming from all the different versions and DAC chips.

I think at this point I'll take a pass on buying one and wait until the dust settles on this DAC.

It almost seems like it's a product being developed after release.

In the meantime, if anyone else has managed to do a good comparaison to the other DACs I'd love to read about it.

I cannot comment on the DAC as it is very hard however I prefer my DD Socket 1+ C5 setup more than my AK100.
