Mini Component Set Speakers?

Hey Hifers

So I am in the process of choosing an upgrade for my current Coby 5.1 computer set up and a lot of individuals have been recommending to get some Bookshelf Speakers and a Amp and I will be get better sound performance than if I bought some new computer speakers.

Now my question is can I use the speakers from my old Sharp Mini Component Set with an amp like the "LP-2020A"?  I saw this amp recommended in several thread as a cheap but effective amp, I am open to any other suggestions of amps in a similar price range?

Or are they not on the same level as Bookshelf speakers?   The model I have is the Sharp CD-XP1220 as seen below:

Having owned and fix up lots of these TA2020s best u mate them with somewhat efficient speakers? Not sure about those Sharps but what impedence are those? If they are lower than 4 ohms it might be a problem.

To be honest with you Trog I am kinda grasping at straws here, I would have gone with the "Infinity Primus P153" that were recommended to me but to import those are going to run me 47% of the price of the item at customs and that does not include how much I have to pay my courier for their service and the overall weight of the item.  Also that has not factored in the price of an Amplifier or Receiver so that I can connect them to my computer which is the reason why I am upgrading my setup.

I have no idea what are the specs on those speakers I just have them lying around.

I am in Jamaica (Caribbean) the audio hardware here is more focused on Studios and Stage Shows, they don't really have anything that the little man can purchase and when we do see something that we like online to clear it we have to pay 47% on the price of the item so a deal can quickly not be a deal and so forth.

I looked at the back on the speakers it a 8 ohms speaker how would the TA2020+ handle that?  And it seems its maximum output is 40 Watts, to be specific the specs are as follows:

Impedance: 8 Ohms
Rated Power: 20W
Max Power Handlying Capacity: 40W

The LP2020 have an impedance of 47K that is equal to 4 ohms correct?  If so wouldn't it be putting in less than 20W into a 8 ohms speaker? If so wouldn't it be under powered, I was reading that a rule of thumb is to make your amplifier the same strength or more than the speakers you are connected them to.

Nah no worries - have ran these with floor standers (as have many others) As said your listening position and efficiency/sensitivity of the speakers plays a bigger role L3000.gif You can get by with less efficient speakers if this is merely for near field duty

Okay thanks I am not worried but I am also here to learn so in the future I am make decisions for myself, there will also be things that "can work", "will work" with little to no penalty but not necessarily what should be used so I am trying to learn about specs and how they should be applied on an overall basis so if possible I would still like the an answer to what I asked above.
