The tonality, and sound quality however is something else, and comparable/ but different to even TOTLs like the LCDs.

The fact they are limited edition, and will hold their value, is also a big plus for me against other non limited edition headphones. Hope my two cents helps smily_headphones1.gif

I sure did not get this, according to you ESW11LTD has better soundstage than W3000ANV ?... this sentence is not coherent - "Being supreaural headphones (on ears) they by default lose out to on ears in soundstage and airiness." You are saying that 'on ear' headphones lose to 'on ear' headphones. Did you mean to say that W3000ANV lose to ESW11LTD ?

Headphones can be supraaural [on ear] and circumaural [around ear] and then there is a category of the peculiar ones like the AKG K1000 and some Stax headphones.

W3000ANV are top of the line headphones and better than Audez'e LCDs. I rate them to be the best closed headphones, period

I think I really was incoherent. Damn typing on these little screens at 6am smily_headphones1.gif I do apologize.

The 3000anvs outclass the esw11 in most ways including soundstage. It is much smoother and one of the best I've heard and have had the pleasure to own.

The esw11ltd beats the 3000anv in only one area (aside from portability), and that is the elimination of slight simbilance (which I can totally live with), and is in general, a very enjoyable headphone across the board.

Of course these are my humble two cents and I'll take no offense if you disagree. smily_headphones1.gif

That sounds right from my listens too.

I want the 11's but have the w3000 and es10 as well as esw9 so kinda feel crazy getting them even though i like them.  For high end portable i have ed8's so that is covered but sometimes my obsession gets the best of me and the 11 sure is a balanced good sound for a small portable.

The hobby is addictive smily_headphones1.gif I suppose it's the logical choice. The 11ltds fill a gap for me due to it's small size/ portability and versatility in playing all genres very well, and it is a keeper.

It can't beat the 3000anvs at their game, but I'm wondering if any headphone in the world can best the magic mids of the 3000anvs....

The esw9 are too laid back dainty and smaller stage.. but large for its portable category.

The esw11 is in full size closed can sound league.
My esw11 trounced the ed8 demo that I compared to once.
My esw11 are altered with a simple mod I posted before so sound less Woody and Super detailed with more localization and separation in the music..

The esw11 can get closer in mids when modded.
The soundstage gets more 3 dimensional and bass to mids more linear with a larger than stock sound like a clear large can.
They are my best portables so far

Closer, for sure but physically, the 3000anvs are in a different league. My best portable ever as well though I do agree smily_headphones1.gif

I've not heard the 10JPNS, but it would be interesting to compare your modded 11s with them (more in the same league)

Well I like the esw11 a lot and they are on my list.  Really enjoy the sound of all of them in this group however I have a/b them with all of my phones and i have do say i don't agree that they are in the same league as the Ed8 or really any of my full sized.  They are a good in-between and work really well portable though.  They are less bulky than the Ed8 too, which is why i use my es10s often.

Did you mean to say that Edition8 belong to a lower league ? Edition8's 40mm driver cannot sound better than 53mm driver that is tuned by a manufacturer of good reputation. It is just not possible. Generally speaking, the bigger the driver the better the tonality and the sound it makes. If this were not the case then we all would be using small pocket headphones with 20mm drivers. 5-6mm difference might keep two headphones in the same quality league [like T1 and HD800], but 13 mm difference is too large not to have an impact. I think you have been hypnotized by Edition8's bass sound. Anybody has Edition8 and ESW11LTD and can send a delicate woman's vocal through the drivers of both headphones to hear and report the difference ? The delicate vocals like those of Alison Krauss or Emmylou Harris. In Flac/Lossless format or in CD quality 16bit / 44.1kHz .

Absolutely the Ed8 outclasses the esw11.  I have heard them side by side for extended time.  Sorry if that offends you.  I love the esw11 and they would be one of my top choices portable.  I have es10 too, they also have the bigger driver and it isn't close to the ed8 either.  Bigger driver isn't always better.  By the way when the ed8 came out a majority of people at that time ranked them higher sound quality the the HD800.  I have the 800 and didn't agree(and still don't) but that was the debate back then since they were top tier.  The ed8 was king of the hill in closed phones that were current until the W3000anv and the Fostex TH900 came out and took it from them on that level.  So i guess you are calling the esw11 on the same level as those, W3000anv-no way.

Edit- I assume you have heard them side by side?

Bigger driver absolutely doesn't always mean has better sound. Well, if that's true then we just need to buy Sony headphone (also a manufacture with good reputation)

I did like the ed8 sound and also realize there are a few variants of it but it simply did not have the bass, or the mids, or the non sibilant trebles of my esw11.. BUT,

It did have a sweet sound to me,
Plus it did have a spacious sound to it.
I don't mean to disrespect but it actually had the same alure as the vmoda in the upper mids to trebles,
And had a quality sound like my recently acquired Sony7520.
If I could afford to keep one I probably would but I am saving for an hd800 now smily_headphones1.gif
I am also very interested in the signature line but hearing is believing ha

It's not that the 11 is a bad sounding headphone, because it's definitely not. The 11 doesn't has a very midcentric signature, but still the midrange is the main point, it define so sweet, and beautiful for female voice. I never found any portable headphone that have more beautiful female voice than this headphone. (never tried ESW10 unfortunetly)

I just expect with bigger driver (and cup) so it can handle better soundstage and imaging. But what I feel here is, I think even the ES10 has better soundstage image than this baby, and something like Sony 1R or Senn Momentum definitely has better soundstage image.

Oh yeah, the 11 is far more beautiful to look in a person than just a picture, it's indeed has different wood/finishing than the ESW9.

I dont know about your esw11, but my esw11 beats the momentum in soundstage size and imaging..

Now I have ATH-W1000, ATH-ESW11LTD, Martin Logan Mikros 90 (just order ATH-W5000 today )

Compare all three phones I have in hand now, 11LTD is not good in sound stage. Even $90 ML Mikros 90 has a larger and sound stage, imho.

When I get my W5000, I will use it during working hour.

11LTD will be on my bed room. It will be good to listen to All Angles, Celtic Woman, etc before have a sweet dream :)

I agree with this, soundstage is limited on the 11s. It's very nice sounding, but it's definitely an "in your head" sound - which can be nice sometimes. I think they are hard to beat as portables.
