Home theater movie headphone?

Thread Starter
I have Ultrasone pro900 for music.

Looking for a good headphone to use with home theater movie viewing.
I tried the 900's and they sound nice, but I think I want an open back for this.

I'm considering the Ultrasone Hfi 2400's or Sennheisers HD 598.
Also consider the wireless Pioneer's.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

What source(s) are you going to be plugging the headphones into?

it might work good enough, but definitely not well.

you'll likely have issues with low volume, and cranking up your laptop/ipad's music player well past 100% (like on VLC) will make it sound horrible.

i'd suggest getting them and trying it for yourself to see how they work with your setup and your ears. but be prepared to buy a budget amp just in case. the Fiio E10 is a combo amp/DAC for $64, which plugs into the USB port of your laptop/ipad.

I really enjoy the 598s for shows/movies.

They sound perfectly fine unamped, and the comfort is still among the best I've ever experienced.

I plugged my (32-Ohm) DT 990 Premium into my laptop and work PC for two years before buying my first amplifier. They sound great un-amped, and amped, if the DT 990 has your kind of sound.

The 600-Ohm version is another story. It's power-hungry.

At least get the Fiio E11 portable headphone amplifier ($65).

Which impedance you talking about? And how do you choose between 770/860/880/990. I don't see much difference at all

The Fiio E11 comes with a .5-Ohm impedance, so you can use it with really low Ohm headphones or headphone up to around 250-Ohm

I know nothing about the Beyer 860s.

The DT990 are fully open, have full bass & full treble, but vocals are clear. a Fiesta sound or "movie theater" like sound

DT770 if you need to have closed headphones for blocking sound, both ways

DT880 are more balanced sound, I seem to wear my DT880s the most.
