I use the Th900 with a Grado 3.5 mm adapter for my ipod CLAS & Alo Mk2 h/p amp doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

Fostex do make portable headphones but at a much much affordable price and I think they are targeted at more 'normal' consumers out there.

I think "Normal" needs to be qualified. Well, thinking about it since it's the local Japanese market, I guess the colour schemes provided by the Kotori could be considered "normal" :-

P.S. it actually sounds better than it looks.

P.P.S. I was being facetious, it's key selling point is that it's customisable. Doesn't have to be this bright colour scheme.

Fostex have OEMd many companies headphones for years. So, even if the headphones don't say 'fostex' it's not to say that they aren't out there. (Awkward wording courtesy of over work.)

Awesome review, thank you so much. I share your displeasure for Audio-Technica and Ultrasone headbands, lol!

I really like your style of writing. I will check your homepage regularly from now on. Cheers!

Isn't that just Fostex's own version of the CAL/D1001?

Yes, and it rocks! (Click in my forum signature to see how I customized the colors on my pair)

And apparently on the Kotori 201 it's plant-derived microfiber called "bio-dyna" (and same for the TH600 and TH900 family [but 50 mm diameter, stronger magnet, etc.]), as where on the CAL/AH-D1000-1/2-5-7000 it was "plain" microfiber (synthetic, maybe?) diaphragms.

CAL used bio cellulose diaphragm on microfiber dynamic drivers. So, same thing.

Look forward to your comparisons and findings. It'll be interesting to see how they stack up against each other, outside of FR.

It's basically a curved disc with a dome in the center slapped onto a mylar flexure, sometimes called "free-edge" (though technically the "edge" isn't free at all). The Foster OEM headphones pre-TH900 used a substance called simply "microfiber" whitish gray in color, while the Kotori 201, TH600 and TH900 and Denon AH-D600 and AH-D7100 use very similar drivers but with a plant derived "version" for the diaphragms. "Bio-dyna" or nanofiber (depending on which product page your on), it's being touted as a feature and it looks darker in color.

 vs.

I'm thinking the material got upgraded.
