Any suggestions on an amp around £300 ish mark, could go higher if sound quality scales up accordingly.. I listen to RnB/Hip-Hop, Dance/Electro, some acoustic now and then.  Edited to add, source will either be my PC, or Cowon D20, and I don't have a DAC. My source files are a mixture of flacs, wavs, 320kbps mp3 (and lower).

Portable or not? If not I'd take a look at the Lake People G103 (maybe G109 which I once had) as amp-only options or the Fostex HP-A4 as a USB-powered DAC+Amp that pairs quite well with the TH600. The AK10 (or its variant sold as Beyerdynamic A200p) might be a portable option though I did not hear that with the TH600 so far.

Not fussed if portable, thanks for the suggestions. I could potentially stretch my budget and buy the Fostex HP-P1, would that marry up well with the TH-600?

The TH600's are easy to drive, I have the Fiio E09K and the Fiio E17 which both can be used separately or paired as the E09K has a dock for E17 to attach to which acts as DAC in that configuration as well as charging the E17 which of course can be used as independent portable headphone amp. In both of these configurations my TH600's sound excellent and with the E17 you have the availability to EQ to any preference you may have. The E09K sells for £109.00 and E17 for £99.99 on Amazon, which is where I got mine from.

Thanks for the comparisons guys smily_headphones1.gif

I've received both the Signature DJ and TH600. By the sounds of your Pro vs TH600 comparison the TH600 seems a bit bassier. While the Signature DJ is ever more than that. Most of the points for the Sig Pro stand as well for the DJ.

Here was my comparison, I personally preferred the Signature DJ for rocking out and heavier types of electronic and the TH600 for stuff like expansive types of progressive and psy trance, as well as glitch, ambient electronic, soundtracks, classical stuff. Right now I'm very happy with both. The TH600 is amazing for movie watching.

Heres more of my thoughts http://www.head-fi.org/t/623238/ultrasone-signature-dj/1425#post_10375497

I've still got some $$$ to burn in the near future ~ might also consider the TH900 one day even though I've picked up the 600 (boyfriend will love his birthday pressie tongue.gif) and DX1000 is on the radar considering I've heard it has bass head bass response. Got the KEF LS50's coming for my main lounge rig. The KEF X300A is in my bedroom rig as well as the headphones I use.

I do like that combination, but keep in mind that the HP-P1 is iDevice-only, i.e. it does not work with a Mac/PC etc. Which is really unfortunate...

Fostex does offer an amp-only portable model as well, the HP-V1, a hybrid design with a tube preamp stage and opamps in the output stage. Very nice, but not quite cheap (about the same as the DAC+Amp HP-P1).

Glad to hear that, I was very close to ordering that exact setup to be my first pair of "nice" all-around headphones, but my wallet talked me out of it since I still need to upgrade my computers GPU (still using an AMD 5870).

So for the time being I settled for getting the E09k+E17, and will get the TH600 after I get my gpu out of the way.

I recieved the apex glacier today, and i'm very hard pressed to hear any difference with the fiio e07k and the th600. I dont think the cost is worth it...

I listened to my 600's today and A/B with a pair of DT770Pro 80 ohms. They are an improvement in every area over the 770's, (and I love the 770's, still do).

I'd hope it was an improvement for the price ;)

Any TH600 owners should check out the album Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible. Ridiculously good sounding album thats for sure.

Shpongle FTW! Big fan have seen them perform a few times live. Posford & Raja are gods!

Whereabouts in Australia are you btw? Melb here :]

TH600 are amazing for all kinds of electronica but especially psychedelic & glitch stuff where detail retrieval is key.

I would also highly recommend checking out;

KiloWatts

Mr Bill

Sk'p

Birds of Paradise (did my fav album of 2013, saw them do a 3hr set over here recently ******* amazing)

Quanta

OTT

Woulg

And for super chill idm/ambient type stuff Aes Dana, Cell, Carbon Based Lifeforms and pretty much all the stuff on Ultimae label. Krusseldorf is nice too

It's interesting hearing your comparisons of the Sig DJ. I was looking at getting those for ages too (or Sig Pros). I think for isolation, durability and portability they're king and I will probably own one of these pairs in future. The bass impact of the DJs sounds like a nice compliment to the Fostex's amazing sub bass for something a little different for certain genres.

I'm moving overseas later this year from Aus to Canada and I can't see myself selling my TH600s for ANYTHING though, they are simply perfect for my tastes. In a lot of ways they put my (originally) $2000 studio monitors to shame.

Please don't lynch me, but... I have an old pair of D2k's that need recabling. I'm wondering if I should get them re-cupped with wooden cups, angled pads, and recabled (essentially Lawton #3) or I should opt for the TH-600. Right now, the TH-600 can be had for around $600 used (Sonic Sense) and the Lawton is $699 + Lead time. Anyone able to compare them? I imagine it's in this thread somewhere, and I'm reading through it now, just curious if anyone has any more recent feedback.

Hey thanks for the recs I'll check out some of those artists asap on the TH600. I'm in Newcastle - not much of a HiFi scene up here I'm afraid haha. If you want to hear something really dark and trippy have a listen to Xenomorph - Qlippoth. Another great TH600 album is Thrift works - Rainmaker.

Canada is a beautiful country, I think you will be very happy up there.

Anyone A/B the TH600 with the 'new' MadDog Pros? Definitely a cheaper alternative for what is presented/advertised as a similar sound signature.

From what I heard the Mad Dog Pro has a slight emphasis in the bass, not sure how much. The TH600 and Signature DJ have a strong emphasis in the bass.

Might be worth taking the hit on just to see how it sounds in comparison. Afterall I need to buy a birthday pressie for my old man soon as well.
