Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones - Page 128

Hi, yeah I hadn't read the whole thread, but it looks like I arrived a the same mod using the Sennheiser 650HD headband pad, because I had done this before on my ultrasones.

Definitely way more comfortable with the mod thanks

So what do you guys think of TH-900 vs TH-600, especially for electronic music. I got rid of my LCD-3s so I might consider getting one of these. I have a D2000 and always loved it's sub bass. Although at times the D2000 can seem bright. How would the TH-900 and TH-600 fare off against D2000 as a reference. Would you guys consider either of these bright?

Having heard the TH600, TH900, and owning a D2000 I can say that the only real thing you're going to get from going up the ladder is refinement, spacious realism, and detail retrieval (and a very noticeable amount of that). I'm not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for as far as electronic music goes since I listen to a good deal of bass heavy music and the bass impact and clarity are at the top of my list for enjoying that genre of music. The higher end models obviously do provide a better bass experience due to their tightness and clarity, but as far as amount goes, I honestly haven't heard a substantial difference since the lineage seems to try to keep a similar sound signature in general. As for the brightness, I honestly don't think the D2000s have ever sounded very bright to me since I'm coming from the Pro 900 as a reference and those are some of the brightest, most piercing cans in terms of highs you can get.

After owning D2000, HE-500, LCD-2 and LCD-3, the most pleasant so far and never fatiguing for electronic and possibly the best choice has been the LCD-2. So I might consider getting LCD-2 again or TH-600 and TH-900. I know the new Hifimans will be good as well, but they'd be quite lively like the other series which is good for most music, although can become a fit fatiguing for long run. Also can't study with the too treble lively cans, it's just damn distracting. I found the LCD-2s at the perfect point between enough detail yet not distracting. That's what I am essentially looking for. The closed, yet not sealed nature of the Fostex/Denon has always been pleasing for me. You get deep subwoofer bass, yet not closed sounding.

So how do the TH-600 compare overall to the TH-900 sound signature wise. I'm guessing that the TH-900 is probably more refined and has more details, but how's the overall sound?

Have you listened to the TH-900 as well?

I have seen the th-600 for less than $850 I paid some time ago from price japan and think it's a terrific bargan at that price. I have also read allot in the th-900 thread and the consensus seems to be that the th-900 wins out in the upper mids and treble. I think the th-600 has slightly more preferable treble than the d7k and ultrasone sig.pro.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep Japan Price and other prices in mind for future. At the moment, I am trying to get my speakers rig done. After I have that completed, I'll try to audition the Fostex at meet or store and get a better sense. I'm in Canada, so if I wanted to order a brand new off Japan Price, how much would it typically be. Is there customs on top? Also, what's the typical price of TH-600 and TH-900 in the used forums here. Just want to keep a price in mind for reference.

Here's a review of the TH600 vs TH900 that might be useful:

I've auditioned the TH600 for a week and own both the TH900 and D7000. All three are great sounding and so close in sound signature you'd be splitting hairs over which does this or that better. At around $600 that you can get the TH600 now it's the steal deal but a D7000 with the wood cups gets the aesthetic value nod.

Used or new? At $600 new, it's quite tempting.

The next headphone I end up getting will be my last for the foreseeable future. So I really want to get it right.

I've seen used on our boards for between $525-650 and BH has them for $699 new.

What is your budget? The TH900 can be found for between $1150-1300.

The D7000 ranges from $600-850.

I've seen Fostex TH-900 for around that price a couple of times here in Canada locally, so that confirmed it for me. I don't know if I'll be going for the D7000 though. The TH-600 on the other hand I had no idea about how much they went for. I haven't really kept up with TH-600 or TH-900 price wise and just know they improve on the old DX000 series. I can get either of them right now if I want, although I am waiting to finalize my speakers first. I use speakers more, so they'll be the primary tool. Even then, I'd of course prefer getting it as cheap as possible. So, it's good to know a bit in advance when I am going to get it and can recognize a good deal.

The TH600 is my second favorite for electronic behind the JVC DX1000. Well see if the signature DJ can become the second best or not. I also love the HD800 sometimes for its insane detail and space eqed to add some bass.
