Hi All,

I was wondering how do the Th-600s respond to smartphone outputs and also headphone outputs on AVRs, specifically the Denon Receivers.

Cheers,

Mitchell,

The Jaben offers is really good. I ordered the TH600 from Price of Japan coz previously Jaben were selling them for more than S$1.6k.

At S$999, with local warranty to hoot, it's a jolly good offer mate.

Bare in mind that the TH600 is using 6.5mm plug and the cable is 3m, so you'll need a 6.5 to 3.5 adaptor and coil the cable really small if you want to use it with your smartphone.

Anyway, I've tried plugging the TH600 to iP5 and Sansa Clip+. While they are very easy to drive, give them a good source of clean power and they will excel.

Not sure on the headphone out of AVR, as I'm using the TH600 with iFi iCAN, which is a budget amp with a small footprint.

With my current setup of MBP > AudioEngine D1 > iFi iCAN, the TH600 gives me more satisfaction than the Senn HD800.

I've a WA7 Fireflies on order, so hopefully it will even up the playing field between the 2 phones.

Whether the TH600 is worth selling the SE846, tough decision you have to make

Thanks for the reply! I am more curious on it being powered by a Denon Receiver, as that would most probably be my home rig. Anybody used them with a receiver before?

A local store just launched a limited time promotion for the TH-600.

Just googled and saw the promo on their facebook page. Will be heading there tomorrow during lunch to check out the stock. Was planning on getting a TH-600 for the office. Thanks for the heads-up.

I've ran the TH600 as well as all my Denons out of a vintage receiver and the sound is outstanding. Those old amps feed the headphone out direct off the amp with just a resistor in its path, hence good clean power. Not sure if your AVR receiver is old enough to have this setup or it is an opamp setup. If opamp it won't quite sound like a vintage would.

It is definitely not a vintage. Planning to make do with the receiver till next time. But seems like my 846 would be hard to sell. And chances are I would have to see this great opportunity fly away just like this.

I dont know if you guys already know this but Todd the Vinyl Junkie has TH600s in stock for $799 with free shipping right now. I just ordered a pair!!

$799 is the new regular price for retailers I believe. The price has dropped on both TH-900 and TH-600 in the past few months.

No wonder the drop in price all of a sudden. It went from SGD 1600 to SGD 1000 (USD 1285 - USD 800). According to the local store it is a christmas special. So don't know what's going on there.

But it has been retailing for US$8xx in Japan for the past few months. Only recently there have been price drops by retailers outside Japan.
At the current prices, it is very good value compared to the TH900

It's been $799 on Amazon for like two weeks now. Great price for great headphone!

Thanks,

Not only good value against it's bigger brother, but I reckon (based on my tastes at least) it's great value next to a LCD-2 as well.
The TH-900's price seems to be holding steady for now though.

What about TTVJ's free shipping? Amazon doin that? BOOM! :gs1000smile:  I used to buy the flagship models of phones I liked but I swear these prices now are just nuts. As Ive gotten older I have become more of a hardcore bang for the buck guy. I hope the 600s fill the bill. I mean the 900 is 700 bucks more...WOW....is the 900 twice the headphone? I am still tempted to get a pair of HD800's(which pain$ my crusty $oul lol) for my classical music. I want a more spacious open sound with good treble to hear all the quiet details of the music and the ambience of the performance venue. The phones I have now dont quite give me the the sound I need for the classical music.

The only way to justify the 900's cost over the 600's is to spend even more money on source and amping.
You could say the same for any brand's flagship vs their lower-tiered siblings - LCD2 vs LCD3, HE-6 vs HE-X00, PS1000 vs PS500, HD800 vs HD700, etc
There are some exceptions where you just happen to have combo that's highly synergistic, or you just happen to prefer the sound of a "lesser" model. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes less can be more.

These are 65,800 on amazon japan

I'm waiting for the th900 to drop below 100,000
