I talked to an ALO Audio rep at the e-earphone event in Tokyo yesterday and he said it will be a closed LCD 2. He showed me some pics of the prototype which were different from the ones posted on this thread and they definitely looked way better too.

Did the rep say anything whether they will be priced similarly to LCD-2, higher or lower?

If it's an LCD2 then I would wager it will be the same price as the open version. And it won't sound quite as good...

I'm looking forward to some impressions of these, I love the LCD2's. My only concern is that they are going to sound very closed in.. The LCD2's are, but in a nice intimate way and the sound is free and airy within the small soundstage. If you cup your hands over the grills when you are listening to them they sound terrible. Think they will have to do more than just place some wood cups on them. Different driver design possibly. Anyways I'm sure they know what they are doing. After all they designed my favorite hp!

Placing your hands over it does not add any damping. Damping is critical for a closed headphone.

Our hands are fairly reflective in terms of sound, so they make poor damping materials. Good damping schemes could absorb the vast majority of sound waves that would otherwise resonate inside a closed headphone chamber, cue modded T50RPs.

But yeah I know what you mean, I still think they are going to have to do something other than just add cups on though. Otherwise they are going to be very warm and boxy

^ Well, after all RMA'd LCD 3s they probably have a lot of leftovers: dampening material (felt), pads (foam) etc. I wonder how they will reuse that...  tongue.gif
