I got the new Solo db, but i think i got the defective one!!!  .  Not too impressive in first listening.  Now I want to listen to Won't play crap because got this

defective one.

And that is exactly what David said to me in a conversation a while back, it is the main reason he hid the chip details in the solo so people would not fixate on it! it is the entire design philosophy and application that matters much more than the components used I feel, though good quality, well thought out components used it a thoughtful way add up in my experience with the solo to something rather special that engages one deeply in the music and I never thought that would happen with digital music! If I was not so happy with the sound of my solo I would be all over the new one like a rash!

I remember from older posts about your experience with the SOLO and how much you liked it. It's great that you held on to it for so long. At the time I was really impressed with it but some of its features forced me to sell it. This one fixed everything that I was complaining about the first one. But if my memory serves me right, the sound coming out of this new SOLO definitely warrants the upgrade. I really like my Schiit Bifrost as a desktop DAC. Great bang for the buck but in terms of performance CLAS -db is way ahead of Bifrost. The improvement between two SOLOs is not all that incremental. 

Yeah, will keep this one till it breaks, hopefully by then apple will support hi-Rez files and I can then take advantage of the CLAS's full capabilities. I am one of the few that really likes the way itunes works and the non buggy ness of the classic. But if and when it does finally fade I will get the new one!

Next though for me is to take full advantage of the piano forte's that I have fallen in love with and that have relegated the LCDs to their box and that will be a new portable amp out of Japan that is tube based, I get the same feeling in my gut about that as when I first saw reports of the CLAS and if it does what the CLAS has done I will be one happy puppy!

I just got the HP-P1 I hope not! Or in time for me return and I'll get the new product   LOL

 

Do you use your L3 when your out and about>? I have one on order and am trying to figure out the best way to make it mobile with the

HP-P1.

I recently sold my HP-P1 and  I think the new CLAS with a decent portable amp is much much better than the HP-P1. 

Have you tried the new CLAS? I read you had the older model. They switched from Wolfson I know that. I also like that with the new model it can be used with a computer as a DAC too.

I'm telling you man, I want the CLAS + MK III, the new Centrance HI M8, the Sony PHA-1, I'm testing the GO DAP X it will be delivered tomorrow.

I'm sick! I have a L3 coming, I want the Headstage Arrow........I don't want to part with the Fostex HP-P1!

Hey please report back the clas, hpp1, go dap x, Sony pha1, centrance m8. I'm going to buy a portable dac with my iPod classic, I'm leaning towards hpp1 because its the only dac/amp that allows lineout to an external amp... but please make comparison of the sound so I can have a more informed decision please.

Step 1: I admit I'm a audioholic and my life is unmanageable! 

 

I am fighting to not get all of those. No kidding, at some time or another I had all in the shopping carts ready to finalize.

 

AND then of course is the question of a DAP? Dx100, the iRiver is around the corner, the HiFiman 901....there is no end.

 

Oh well, its all good. Not too long ago we did not have choices. I'll probably get most of these and then be a frequent poster in the For Sale Forums.

The CLAS does have a line out as well. If you're only going to take advantage of its DAC, getting HP-P1 doesn't make all that much sense because the new CLAS is significantly better than the DAC section of the Fostex.

I may or may not get an external portable amp, I may get done with hpp1 for portable use and line out to external amp at home for home use. I'm not going to have a laptop or desktop setup. IPod will be the core of my portable and home setup.
Its good to know that the new clas has better dac section than the hpp1 though, thanks for the info. You know anything else about the other idevice compatible dacs/amps? I mean sound quality wise in dac and amp sections in those other devices

Why exactly does the CLAS have a significantly better DAC than the Fostex?

 

Where did you get the info? I'd like to see too as I still have a choice.
