maybe a even better amp will make it high fi?
maybe a even better amp will make it high fi?
Hmmm. Could be.
I was looking at the specs on Cypher labs site and it looks like the only 2 differences between the Solo-R and -db is the -db is balanced and can be used as a computer DAC where as the -R is strictly for the apple and is single ended. So it doesn't exactly put the -R in mid-fi territory does it?
If I'm reading the specs correctly they both use the same DAC chip. True?

You got me on that one. I've never even owned the original CLAS so I'm just speaking out of my *****, but both the -R and -db have the same DAC chip. Whether they're implimented the same way... I have no idea.
the way they advertise it sounds like the R will sound exactly like the db when hooked to an ipod, when using the single ended.
If coaxial output were not necessary, GS3 was confirmed to interwork with The Intruder from RSA and its amp should be super powerful. About the same price tag when compared to $699 AlgoRhythm Solo -dB.
I guess that decision should be pretty obvious.
So we still don't know whether this device can work with Android devices like Samsung Galaxy SIII? Unless I'm missing something, I don't see a reason why not, if it's working with computers as a standalone DAC.
The best portable DAC? This little bugger (USB bus-powered) with a similar price tag might be worth a look

So now we have:
Things are getting crowded.
Skylab, we need you back to portable amps so we can have a shoot-out.
And the Sony PHA-1, and the upcoming Centrance Hifi-m8.
*Not sure if the RSA intruder is for idevices or not.
Does the Intruder work as a DAC with iDevices?
