So, it's not an issue with the R1 - if you had a Galaxy S3 it would work.

That's correct. I've tested on both Galaxy S2 & S3 and it works well with both of them

I always get the icon as soon as I plug them in.
Perhaps you could look at changing your ROM.

I spoke to HTC tech support and they said it's most likely a chipset issue, is your HTC from the USA?
also my HTC one s is running stock so i'd rather not change it

i think it's safe to say your friend either has partial hearing loss

or the seal wasn't good enough.

Even if some say it's not basshead level, there is no way he should be asking where's the bass?

+1

Bass is very much present on these.

Maybe it's not as tight and accurate as it is on say Yamaha EPH-100s, but it's definitely there. However, that's not a very good comparison since that Yams are like $100 more expensive.

Wow, dual dynamic drivers? It's from Brainwavz, so I've gotta try.

Went to go order and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the price. Very excited for these!

I feel that the W4R statement is an overstatement.  Can't comment on the EX1k though :p  The R1 are good, even great, but not that great :)

Nonsense. I'd take my $15 JVC FX67 over them. Not to mention nearly every budget IEM I've ever heard.

Something rings a bell there.

Although the Brainwavz B2 is technically superior and 'better,' whatever that means, I would take the Beta over B2. I just can't stand them.

You have no idea how much I came to despise the TF10. The initial shock of their quality was amazing, after that, the sound just went down hill for me. R1s on the other hand., can not get enough of them.
