Thanks GGibby for posting files and instructions.  I successfully upgraded the firmware.  Been listening to it into work and home today, the bass is v full, just jumps out.  I guess the stronger attack is due to the onboard amp.  Put on Untold's new FACT magazine mix, maybe the best jungle/hardcore mix ever?  Stupid-grin-inducing the whole ride in :)  When I get time I will try to A-B it against the Fuze.  Others will do the more knowledgeable and in-depth reviews, but if it helps I can compare it just against what I know and what you might know too, using the Wooduo for both.  There is actually an EQ setting for the Wooduo on the N1, which is what I have it set at - sounding good so far.
 

From reading the other N1 thread, it seems Jack has said max card size is 32GB and class 4...before I buy one, does that seem a bit odd to anyone that it would have to be that exact?  Class speed might not matter for this usage, but 64GB would be nice....mind you this is a big step up anyway from an 8+8 Fuze.

So what are the different EQs on there apart from the Wooduo? Have u tried the player with on-ear/over-ear headphones?
 

The other EQ settings are Hi-fi (probably the best one apart from Wooduo), HSA v1.0, PlayFX (which you can set in settings to 3D or Bass boost), Rock, Pop, Classical, Bass, Jazz, User (with 5 bands to to tweak).  Like most preset EQs I didn't like them but to be fair I didn't give them a lot of time.

I read elsewhere the Wooduo's have a v-shape EQ so it would be interesting to know what the Wooduo setting does - is it flat, to let that v-sound through as intended, does it invert the v somewhat to flatten the result, or does it emphasise the v further?  I think Hi-Fi was the basic 'flat' EQ setting (to my ears), but the Wooduo setting was nice - they seem to have matched it well.  I've never had the time to properly equalise phones to my player, but because I listen mainly on public transport, with a lot of competing bass rumbles, I'd want to leave the v-shape of the Wooduo intact - so I'll probably go between that setting and Hi-Fi.

I haven't tried full size headphones with it and probably won't, I only have ANC-7s anyway.  This might not be much of a surprise, but I tried the N1 with some V-sonic R02Pro2s last night (also known as bass emphasising), and well, they were nowhere near as nice as the Wooduos!   I listened to the same mix as I mentioned above too.  I won't really say a bunch of subjective adjectives of why there was such a gap between the two in listening pleasure - just that I was surprised how big it was (although to be fair, the V-sonics were used on the Wooduo EQ, so you could narrow the gap somewhat in your estimation).  As stated above one channel in my RE0s is broken so I can't compare these with it, but given the RE0s are more trebly it probably wouldn't be a meaningful comparison anyway.  It will be interesting to see how the head-fi experts rate the Wooduos against the usual high-end comparators.

ITO pure aesthetics, the Wooduos have got to be up there with the best - the striking red ribbon cable is already getting some glances on the street (in my mind anyway) and, seriously, African rosewood casings?  Lovely.
 

I am now rather anxious to receive my wooduo, I have paid by western union but I haven't get any confirmation whether the stuff have been shipped or not

I also didn't get any shipping confirmation, but I received my N1 + Wooduo 2 today. I'm living in Germany and I ordered with express shipping.

I'll write about my impressions tomorrow (or so), I'm still testing the ear tips.

I normally use the music "Hotel California / Hell Freezes Over" to compare the sound DAP or amp. Now N1 burned in 20h over and now N1 sound quality(EQ:HSA V1.0) get higher than RoCooP a little. If I compare with same EQ, I think RoCooP sound still better.  Music format is FLAC 44.1/16. Now I reccomend head-fier to choice N1, if I concern Hisound direction and their product line up. Jack said N1/N3 are an entry model. N1 is a good model as an entry model. But I am not satisfied with the battery life, volume level and some others.

I had faced firmware update problem on my PC. Finally I could do it, The problem was "Loading config file faild!" when I launch hisoundTool.exe. I changed chinese forlder name to english name, then the problem gone.

Now my N1 firmware is N1-V1.01 2031-1-08 on display shows. I found the max volume get smaller 1 or 2 level. Miss-sound in the biggining of FLAC music, get improved a little, still miss. The other update poind I do not check. Miss-sound problem never occur on mp3 format, only for FLAC. and the problem never occued on RoCooP even same FLAC file.

Try a wav file if possible.

If N3's sound quality is noticeably better than N1's, this would be a better deal than N3 + Wooduo 2 at the favourite price promotion here...

Perhaps but $80 vs $250 is big difference in price. Hard to compare from a deal standpoint.

That it works with wav is good for me. I prefer it anyways and am in constant debate with myself whether to use it on a portable or not. The FLAC will need to get sorted but it appears it's coming along. When I get the N3, I'll try different flac levels and see if it helps.

I was thinking of N1 + Wooduo 2 (149 + 30 for express shipping ) vs. N3 including Wooduo 2 (249 + 8 for express shipping, on this offer you get express shipping for the price of standard shipping).

In Euros, this would be ~134 Euros vs. ~193 Euros.

I converted some important albums to wav, but that's no solution for my entire music collection...

$80 N1 is for preorder. It will be $140 around. And N3 includes three earbuts. The price $250 includes it. Both two mostly same time release, same body size..

So I do not expect N3 sound quality much better than N1. To minimize type of music format,I try to use FLAC. If wav size is much smaller, I might choice wav.

I think so, too. It has a different sound signature and a little bit more output power. But the soundchips (and all other parts apart from the amp) seem to be the same.

N1's output power is enough for me.

And the N1 looks more stylish than the N3 ;)
