HELP. WESTONE 3 or UE TRIPLEFI 10? Need to make a choice.

Hey guys I have a predicament and I think from what I have read I am sticking with the TripleFi 10's but I wanted to ask before I give up my oppurtunity.

I picked up some Westone 4's yesterday which I love and got a couple Westone 3's on sale that I am listing on eBay if family don't want them. It was a good sale so I took advantage.

I started considering based mainly on comfort selling my TF10 on head-fi and keeping one of the 3's. I had heard they were similar in sound sig at one point but I started reading and I don't know that it would be a smart move at this point.

See I have the 3's sitting in front of me in a sealed box. I don't want to open the box and then turn around and have to sell them on ebay and make the person think they are getting a used set of phones.

Like I said I am leaning toward just sticking with what I have but I would be interested in any helpful info from someone who preferably has or does own both IEMs.

Thanks.

Doc

Sup Doc. Have you ever tried Westone 3? Or is your only experience with them in the sealed boxes you have now? From what I've read they're quite different in signature to the TF10, though I've only heard the TF10.

Yea I only heard them for a moment and they didn't strike me to being that similar. It was very brief but it seemed like, oddly enough, the mids were better from my memory on the TF10. I was't there to buy westone 3's as I drove all the way out there to get the 4's. But after having them sit here in my home and realizing how much I prefer the form factor of the westone over the TF10, I have started to ponder this question and wish I spent a few moments to do a serious audition when I had the chance.

At the price I got these 3's, if I am ever going to decide to own them, now would be a good time.

Where did you get them on sale? :)

Makes a lot of sense to me... from experience, the TF10 are very mids-recessed, while from what I've read the W3 seem to begin to approach neutrality. However, you can also consider that the W3 have a significantly higher MSRP/sale price than the TF10. But, doesn't having the W4 supersede the need for the W3 at all, and maybe -- just maybe -- the TF10 as well? W4 is quite a contender in the universal IEM world... maybe you can use the funds to experience other facets of headphonedom?

Ya I'll just sell the 3's and take in th extra few bucks I'll make on them. Yea the 4's are for sure a superior IEM to the TF10 IMHO but there are times I won't want to use the 4's so It is nice to have another decent iem around that I won't start crying like a little girl if i snag a cable or something. I also like foam for extended and more serious listening while I use silicon tips when running around so I keep silicon on the TF10 and do my real listening with the w4.

Well thanks for your help.

Sure I picked them up from inmotion entertainment from SNC airport. I have called locations in Charlotte, NC, Dallas Tx and Portland Or and they are all out of W3's and 4s. SNC has the demo W4 left and maybe one or two W3's left. They WILL NOT ship to you so don't even try. You have to go to the store (which is inside security checkpoint).

They are replacing their stock wiht the 3R and 4R.

I haven't heard of a W3R... Do you mean the UM3X RC?

W3 and TF10 are quite different.  TF10 mids are more present and while not balanced and neutral, it is more balanced than W3. W3 bass larger, treble sharper, soundstage larger.  I think W3 is the more exciting IEM.   Bad ergonomics on TF10 can make it a deal breaker for many

I was wondering if it was inmotion since I saw the W2s at CLT on sale on Sundayand all others were gone. I am in AID right now and they have only W2s left because I have the last W3. I love my W2s but the price of these were too insane to pass up.
