My son's 9th b'day was last night, so we had an ice cream cake for him. We all enjoyed it immensely. smily_headphones1.gif

I went through the "low-fat, low-sugar, sort of, but not really ice cream" phase. Then one day I had some full-fat, real sugar, premium ice-cream. It was braingasmic! It had been YEARS since I had tasted something that good - and right then I decided that not having the best ice cream (in moderation, of course) was just dumb. Go big or go home!! My favorites are real vanilla bean, Oreo cookies & cream and strawberry. I know - not very wild - but I really don't like mint or marshmallow or coffee or caramel or cherry or most of the other flotsam & jetsam they put in trendy ice cream.

Mint chocolate chip or vanilla bean,...yummy!!!

PS: Sony just announced (yesterday) a new Walkman with 77hrs of battery life & FLAC playback: http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/10/sony-launches-two-new-e-series-walkmen/?utm_medium=feed&utm_source=Feed_Classic&utm_campaign=Engadget

It sounds fantastic to me,...but I do wish it was at least 32gb, or had an expansion slot.

I wish the players didn't have the funky pattern on it. Other than that the 77-hour battery life and FLAC support (finally) are welcome.

I wonder how it compares to a Sansa Clip Zip/+ in sound quality.

I prefer a Sony to a Sansa any day,...and that includes a Rockboxed Sansa as well. The sq tends to be excellent,...

Is the pain from how they sit on your head, or the Grado sound signature? I never had a problem listening to my former SR60i for hours on end except they weren't the most comfortable things to wear.

Ugh! My SR225i was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever had the misfortune to put on my ears. The comfy pads are supposed to be better, I guess, but I wouldn't know because I had the bowls of course.

They had a sound signature I've never found elsewhere, however. They weren't an all-arounder, which is why I didn't keep them, but for 80s pop and small ensemble choral (oddly enough) I can't remember having more fun. Honestly, I wish I had a pair of Grados again, just for that experience.

I had the comfy pads, and they didn't bother my ears, but the unpadded headband eventually felt heavy on the head.....especially for one who keeps their hair in a buzz-cut like I do. The big stupid cable was also annoying...lol.

I would like to get another set of Grados at some point, too....I always wondered how much difference there was between the SR60i and the higher-up models.

Man up young sir, for Rush another 45 minutes on the Grado Sponge shouldn't have even elicited a whimper out of you... biggrin.gif

I was using bowls with the grills pressing up against my ears. For 7 hours straight smily_headphones1.gif It's okay though, Caress of Steel never sounded better than out of my woody SR80is.

Why not have the best in moderation? This is something the French understand well. If one needs to cut corners then maybe one shouldn't be indulging in the first place. Now, before I get jumped on by folks from other threads, let me wink_face.gif back this view up. I understand some will have health or other issues and may need a reduced version, in order to satisfy their indulgence.

It's my personal view that if I'm worried about extra calories, I'd rather abstain than to have something really rich reduced to a shadow of itself. Simply have it less often and in moderation. Now, where were we............... yes, gotta get some tongue_smile.gifsuper premium ice-cream for the weekend.

Yeah, pretty much killed it. there's still a chance that bass bump might just be software and not hardware.

You can only hope. It honestly seems like it would require a lot more effort to add bass boost in hardware than in software, considering these things are usually made with off the shelf parts. If the boost were in hardware you'd imagine they'd have to custom-design some of the components, and that seems like a lot more work than Sony would put into a device they'll only make much money on in volume.

It could also mean that they focused specifically on using components that don't roll off in the sub bass, and also that they concentrated on keeping the output impedance to a minimum to limit the interaction with different headphones, so that the bass they produce is tight and extends properly.

Oh, who am I kidding? They likely just programmed a 12 dB shelf under 250 Hz in there and stuck it under an option called SuperUltraXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXtraBassOver9000.
