+10000.

(Are they pipes or l's?)

l's. I thought they were pipes for a while until I tried searching for him on here and it didn't work with pipes. I thought about it and it's pretty much a given that we'd have to honor ljokerl at some point. And since it seems June is vacant, that works out well.

Just want to give an extra special thanks to warren for helping out on the Buying Portable thread! Literally the first time in months where I've had to worry so little about it. I can take that week off the internet like I've planned....?

I know the community has already bought him a couple different custom IEMs, so honoring him on TMAC might seem a step down from there, but that guy has done a TON for Head-Fi, and sometimes I just read through his epic comparison threads for enjoyment. Yeah, I'm weird that way.

I find it helpful to look through them for his impressions of headphones that I have. Comparing how he hears the stuff to how I hear it, makes his impressions of other headphones that I have not heard more relevant to me, if that makes any sense.

Very best,

Those typically happen down closer to where he lives. in the big city. I'm halfway up the state in the comparative boonies and car-less, also.  redface.gif

Well they may have the city down there, but the capital is still upstate, so there!  tongue.gif

My bro will fix that when he gets back.  wink.gif

I just bumped into him last week! Was on my way to Trader Joe's. When asked why he'd been staying at Extended Stay America, above the din of street traffic he yelled... "They got a kitchen!" biggrin.gif

And allow pets!  Makes it feel just a little more like a very small and non-descript corporate home!  wink.gif

There's a whole story behind why they're ls instead of |s, but frankly it's not terribly thrilling.

Just trying to do my part.  BTW, should have asked me sooner, I'd have helped.  smile.gif

LOL, I ended up getting the UE600.  Feel like a jackass for waiting that long to make a decision on it.  biggrin.gif  Relatively flat, more laid-back and not as strident as my UE700.  Should make for an enjoyable listen I think.  smile.gif  I am now content.

I'll skip it then. I like a slightly more aggressive sound, especially for travel. The UE600 is one stylish IEM though.

Well, laid-back in a relative way (as compared to my UE700).  Here's how it graphs compared to a couple of my other IEMs, along with the Shure SE535 (a perennial fav that I don't have yet):

As you can see, not too shabby.  Plus, Tomscy said that it gets you 98% of the way to a Tio, which he thinks is pretty alright, so there's a vote of confidence.  Anyway, a steal at $50 I think.

I was reading Tyll's review on the UE600,

Quote:

The sound of the UE 600 is neutral to somewhat mid-centric, with decent bass presence and smooth, forgiving treble. It is especially well-suited for audiobooks and phone calls with its clear, forward, and highly intelligible voice presentation. For me, however, this is one of the rare instances where an earphone seems to measure better than it sounds. The UE 600 is tuned well---certainly better than the vast majority of its competitors---but it just isn't as far ahead of the crowd as it looks to be on paper, nor as close behind UE's new flagship.

Moving away from sound quality, there is little to complain about---the UE 600 is a little too plasticky in build but remains lightweight, comfortable, and decently isolating courtesy of the included Comply eartips. It's an easy earphone to like, but perhaps not as easy to love as I had hoped; a solid $100 recommendation alongside---but not ahead of---the Creative In-Ear 3 and MEElectronics A161P.

The part where is measure better than it sounds stood out for me, a competent IEM, but perhaps not worth the reduction in drawer space for me, especially at UK pricing. I'll more than likely be sticking with what I already have for a while, least until some impressions on the StageDriver universals comes out. If it was £35 in the UK, I'd be as tempted as you were, with the bonus that I could give it to a family member if it wasn't my thing.

Okay, don't hate me, but it turns out I had some Amazon credit lurking in my account.  So my final tally was $24.99 USD shipped.  If it was a solid rec at $100, I'm pretty happy about how I made out.  smile.gif

My main issue with the UE IEMs is that all the tips I have for Westone & Shure-sized stems won't fit on the UE.

What's wrong with the UE tips?  confused.gif  They even come with Complys.

Nothing! It's just that I have a stockpile of Shure & Comply tips and it annoys me that I would have to buy more to fit the UE. I really like Comply tips - they fit me really well - but the don't last very long and they ain't cheap.

I'd rather get some custom ACS tips than shell out £15 each tip I need to replace complys, especially since my ears produce quite a bit of wax.
