I have another 7 or 8 sets, but they all are unused for the most part. I really haven't felt the need to go any higher up the headphone heirarchy....the years of damage done to my ears while growing up kind of make the idea pointless. I enjoy my main three...S500, HFI-780, and CAL! and am entirely content with them.

I had some ongoing ear infection issues, so for a while I barely used headphones at all....but my Nexus 7, I use all the time.biggrin.gif
heh I sold off my cityscape up towns and my he400s, I'm perfectly happy with my S500s and modest speaker setup for movies. biggrin.gif

I think we're a bunch of head-fi anti-christs. It's a good thing we have Magick, Warren and a few others to balance us out...

Definitely against the grain around Head-Fi to content ourselves with the same headphones year after year. I guess we just don't understand that every new, shiny headphone is a quantum leap over the one before it. By that reckoning, I've had my headphones for over three years, which means that they're to the modern $$$$ flagships what a wind-up gramophone player is to a perfectly-appointed mastering studio.

Also, I read that Verge review. That G Pad does look nice--it slots right in between something like a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 10 and comes with a stock Android option. One of the main reasons I was attracted to the Nexus 7 was the lack of interface customization and bloat, as well as access to timely updates. I wasted no time updating to KitKat as soon as I activated my Nexus. I spent so little time with 4.3 I can't really say how it compares with 4.4, though I do miss the blue highlights in KitKat. Stock Android has been excellent so far--looking at my friends' TouchWiz-skinned S4s made me appreciate just how beautiful a simple UI can be.

I guess I just don't feel like I'm missing too much with what I've got, and/or I don't really like the choices I have at the level I can spend. For instance, I had a mild fascination with the HD5x8 series recently. For the holidays I was going to pick up an HD558, do the foam mod (to save the $50 plus the shame of wearing something that looks as ridiculous as the HD598), and pick up a few other assorted, unrelated items. I ended up getting a Nexus 7 instead. I feel like I must have some sort of fantastic will or something to be as active around this place as I am and somehow manage to avoid buying more cans. Maybe Gandalf should have selected me to carry the Ring to Mt. Doom. biggrin.gif
Right now, I'm at that point too. I've had an itch for a while now to try some variant of AKG (K6xx or Q7xx) but I'm pretty set in what I have and talk myself out of it. The only reason I even picked up the Crossfade LPs w/ m100 drivers is because I traded my M-80s toward them. Almost same sig but comfort goes way up which was what I was looking for. smily_headphones1.gif The 880s are my main cans for my new home workstation, the wife lets me have nice things once in a while. wink.gif I just need something to drive them better. Maybe a nfb... maybe next Christmas...

I didn't think I was too bad until I looked to my left and saw T90s. lol TBH, it's a little over my first year back into HF and I'm done until the T90s kick the bucket. I will indulge in the occasional $100 or less hps tho... as long as the wife okays it. biggrin.gif

lol - the only way the T90s qualify in the "cheap-fi" club is if you found them in a thrift store for $20.

Lol, the funny thing about that is that those two mods are pretty different sounding... but both top notch in their own way.

Lol, you mean mostly Magick.  Actually Argy, I know what you're going through.  I was in that boat not too long ago.  You see, this is a hobby where it takes a lot of discipline in order to avoid getting carried away.  And the best way to maintain discipline is to not flirt.  Having said that, I was ultimately swayed by the words of one far wiser than I...

Do or do not, there is no try.

As I sensed early on that there was something fishy going on abouts that TwinQy - wink and something about the rear end of a cat , I'm sure of it ...

Although the pineapple clue without a mention of holiday fruit cakes seems me to be purposely misleading at best ... lol

Remember wink:

The Stasi, with a network of as many as 2 million informants in a country of 17 million, was everywhere. There were 102,000 secret police officers employed full time to monitor the population—one for every 166 East Germans. The Nazis broke bones; the Stasi broke souls. The East German government pioneered the psychological deconstruction that torturers and interrogators in America’s black sites, and within our prison system, have honed to a gruesome perfection.

The goal of wholesale surveillance, as Arendt wrote in “The Origins of Totalitarianism,” is not, in the end, to discover crimes, “but to be on hand when the government decides to arrest a certain category of the population.” And because Americans’ emails, phone conversations, Web searches and geographical movements are recorded and stored in perpetuity in government databases, there will be more than enough “evidence” to seize us should the state deem it necessary. This information waits like a deadly virus inside government vaults to be turned against us. It does not matter how trivial or innocent that information is. In totalitarian states, justice, like truth, is irrelevant.

The object of efficient totalitarian states, as George Orwell understood, is to create a climate in which people do not think of rebelling, a climate in which government killing and torture are used against only a handful of unmanageable renegades. The totalitarian state achieves this control, Arendt wrote, by systematically crushing human spontaneity, and by extension human freedom. It ceaselessly peddles fear to keep a population traumatized and immobilized. It turns the courts, along with legislative bodies, into mechanisms to legalize the crimes of state.

- So you're just practice , wink - for now  ;')

In what world do I get classified as a thoughtful, reasonable, nice person? confused.gif

We cut you some slack because you have good taste in cars. :smile_phones:

I enjoy getting intimate with my gears. Only sold my beloved Denon D5000 @ 1,926 hours to upgrade to the Denon D7000. Which I regrettably had to sell @ 1,809 hours. A few weeks later I offered to buy back my D7000 at a nice premium but the buyer was satisfied and shut me out.

While I do want closed-back cans to complement the HE-6, I'm not exactly itching to buy more cans.

That would only be relevant if they thought I was human.

I think you and I focus on different aspects in 'phones. For these two, you found the differences, and I found the similarities. Of course, you also liked the new Denon headphones and 80s music, so I think we must come from different universes... tongue.gif
