POPE THINKING OF LOSING HAT

POSTED BY ANDY BOROWITZ

VATICAN CITY (The Borowitz Report)—In his latest break with Catholic orthodoxy, Pope Francis said today that he was “seriously considering losing the hat,” the tall ceremonial mitre that has long been a signature of papal dress.

“I know I’m going to catch hell for saying this, but it looks kind of dumb,” he said. “Besides, you expect me to believe God really cares if I wear a big pointy hat or not? Come on.”

The Pontiff said that he would probably “try out some different looks, like a baseball cap or something” over the next few weeks, “just to see what happens.”

“If a lightning bolt comes out of the sky and cracks St. Peter’s in two, then I guess we’ll know it was a bad idea,” he chuckled.

/ Here's to hoping he does stick with the traditional Red Shoes , though  .

One night only! A guy well known for the verbosity of his prose tries poetry:

Christmas comes but once a year;

an excuse for us to buy new gear!

A newer, sleeker, shinier can

is surely something we demand.

An amp with output smooth and clean

will cure the treble's glaring sheen.

A cable made from braided gold

will show us detail yet untold.

A DAC with many sample rates

will surely silence all debates--

--that buying gear's what brings delight,

not playing music day and night;

that good sound comes to those who spend

their time and money without end

in search of everlasting joy

by buying every audio toy.

No thanks! say I, I'll take some flack,

but I'm not concerned with what I lack--

--in gear, for when my favorite song

comes on, I often sing along,

oblivious, it must be said,

to all but the sounds which fill my head.

Because MUSIC, there should be no doubt,

is what this hobby's all about!

So while Christmas comes but once a year,

this time I'll pass on buying gear.

I would have preferred a pentina or a villanelle.
