The burn in will really make them sound completely different. I think that using the pc's sound card would be fine. Just turn them up a click past what you'd consider loud if they were in your ears. About four days will do it.

You guys keep saying 200-300 hours are required for burn-in, but Matt, 4 days times 24 hours is only 96 by my calculations...

We will all hear things a bit differently. I think that we can all agree that these iem's need a good bit of burn in. I can't hear much if any difference past 100 hours. Others say 200-300.

I suggest cook them for 100 hours and see how they sound to you. If they sound great, then you're set. If you still hear any harshness to the treble, I'd burn them in some more.

My experience with 2 bass heavy dynamic driver IEMs, the ATH-CKS77 (one driver) and the AH-C300 (two drivers) has been that it took more than 400 hours for those to reach their mature sound.  With the R-50, a dual balanced armature driver pair, I did not find any changes in the sound after a few hundred hours of working time.  I don't know how many hours are required for the GR07 BE to reach its mature sound.  But, putting your IEMs to listener absent work, is a waste of resources if you like the sound on first listen.  If that is the case and you don't have to turn in a review or equivalent within a time frame, just let the working hours accumulate as you use them at will.  I did not put my ATH-CKS77 to work on their own, at all.  With the AH-C300 I did it for about 100 hours, because I wanted to share some impressions quickly and my normal listening time would have required about 50 days to reach 100 working hours.  Can you imagine putting your IEMs to work (and driver wear, if that happens) on their own, for 400 hours?  That would take a 16+ days non stop operation!!!!  That just reminds me of trying to overthrow a bad government through semi-peaceful street protests.

If you enjoy a pair of IEMs on first listen and are in no hurry to deliver impressions, I don't see a reason to put them through absent work, and then start listening to them.

Here is a take on how my AH-C300 changed with use.  Now, I understand why treble harshness decreases or goes away after a few hundred hours of use.  Here it is:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/680119/sony-xba-h1-and-xba-h3-hybrid-dynamic-and-ba-iem/1695#post_10340816

If all the perceived changes came from brain adaptation to the sound, after getting a few pairs of headphones with similar sound signatures, the listener would stop realizing that bass tightens up, mids clear up and treble harshness is greatly reduced or gone.  That would be so, because his/her brain would have already become adapted to bloated bass, bassy (veiled) mids and harsh treble.  So, once the brain has gotten used to the sound, the changes would not be perceived anymore with similar sounding headphones.

Make sure you play with all different tips as a tight seal is very important as well as the burn in.

^^ Good point. The ONLY tips that work for me are the Sony hybrids in small.

Have you ever tried the westone star tips? I've heard good things about them but never invested in them yet.

Nope...never tried them. If they are double flange then I can't wear them.

They are not double flange but they have like a spline design to help stay in the ear more.

Got a link for them?

NM...found them on amazon. The foam version looks interesting as well.

I believe the star tips have a pretty narrow bore and would be a squeeze to get on. Anyone have experience?

Do the westones have a smaller bore/boss

^^^ Posted in this thread when asked if star tips would work.

Hi everybody !!

I Just got the Gr07 Be a couple of days ago,

out of the box, there was too much sibilance and the sound seems to be somehow congested,

i left it to burn for like 50 hours now, the sibilance is gone !

iam using it with Dx50, i still cant enjoy it fully.

with certain slow songs or simple songs it sounds very nice now, but with rock or hiphop songs with lots of instrument, it seems too congested and not that clean.

out of the dx50 lineout, it sounds better and clean, but the sound is not full, with small soundstage, and a tad weak bass.

out of the headphone output using dx50 amp, it sounds fuller with better soundstage, better bass but the sound is not clear as from the line out.

from dx50 line out + O2 amp and WOW very clean sound spacious sound stage, its amazing .. but O2 is not that portable, i can use it at home only.

my question is what others experience ?? and also is there a portable amp recommendation that gives such a clean sound as the O2 thats not that expensive ? (by the way i have leckerton uha-4 and its very close to dx50 amp)

meanwhile i will keep burning and listening.
