Nice :) btw does the wood require maintenance? eg. the LCD2 and 3's have a bottle of oil, for the wood i suppose?

I have a microfibre cloth to give the cups a quick polish after using them. The lacquer seems thick enough to protect the wood by itself, so I just use the cloth to give the cups a shine :)

Mine looked that way straight out the box brand new.  But that was so long ago and probably lasted only a few weeks, it's possible that one is shinier.

The shiny surface is really difficult to take a picture of without a dedicated lightbox and a shroud to make the reflections less distracting.

My first month with my pair of AT W3000ANVs was spent listening to them with my Decware Taboo.  I really enjoyed them "despite" my love for my LCD-3s which sound completely different.  Last night I went back to my Leben CS-300SX with the ATs and it brought the sound to another level.  Once again, the Leben has managed to completely open up a pair HPs.

I was listening to the Lee Morgan/Wayne Shorter Complete Vee Jay recordings on CD. Each of the instruments came through with great clarity.  Nothing sounded extended.  Morgan's muted trumpet was completely 3D.

I don't know if the ATs will take over as my #1 pair, but they will be getting equal time with the LCD-3s.

How about them compared to the DX-1000s  Is it worth investing in them?

While the DX-1000 has a fuller low end, I prefer the clarity of the ATs.

I can understand that. Could never have DX 1000 as my only headphones. Btw wonder if I am not just walking over the river to get some water. CD 3K on the tube amp is quite spectacular regarding soundstage. Dx 1000 on the same can get slightly muddy :)

Got my 3000ANV for a few days.  It does remind me of both the DX1000 and D7000 when I had them.  For me the 3000ANV is somewhat in between those two.  Not as bassy as the JVC but surely better controlled than the Denon.  Then the highs are not as sparkly as the Denon but better than the JVC.  Now the mids are better than those two.  Female vocals are a pleasure to listen to.  Soundstage is a notch above them too.  Thats all I have to say with 10 hours of head time with them.

So after one of those really full on work weeks, I'm enjoying my Saturday sitting back in my chair with my W3000ANVs.

one quick question.do you guys have confort issues with the W3k's?

Not me. What's annoying you?
I felt like they were hanging on my head where the cups felt sagging on my head and I wished the wings would support more.

Between bending the 2 support wires over the top and just becoming more accustomed to it, I'm quite fine with them now. Bending the top this way means that on my small head, I get enough of a grip that the sagging feeling is diminished. It also means a better seal and better bass! On a bigger head, it might lead to unwanted clamping force... and might not be necessary.

I bent it with my hands. musicman59 suggested it to me, actually. It seems mostly safe.
