Wow... my PC headphone is Bose AE2's.... Then again, I don't use it for anything beyond Youtube and such usually so...

 

At least it's extremely comfortable though.

I love my w3000 just as much as I loved them in the beginning. I've sold two pair of stax cans and a heavily modded d7k since then. The only can I've picked up recently was a pair of d600. But that's only for outside and transportable use. My trinity is he-6>jh13>w3000. Those cans are it for me, and I don't see myself buying another high end can anytime soon(maybe a closed lcd).

Still loving mine but they are only six months old.  Heavy rotation position.  Have them in my Pelican case.  I do still jump to the DX1000's for bassier stuff at times.  The HD800's get a little less use due to both leakage and house noise.  My wife's computer speakers are like nails on a chalkboard.  Gotta say even the ED8 gets a lot of time when kicking back too, due to the design of the cups...you can lay back on a pillow without having them get pushed out of place.

Since you brought up the d7000, I was looking at pics of both drivers. And they both look identical. I figured they would look similar, but from the naked eye, I couldn't tell them apart. I'm also aware the 900 drivers are new and improved, but still look identical nonetheless.

I found copper(?) around 6.5mm jack (between wooden decoration and cable) seems to be oxidizing. Anyone find similar symptom or any way to clean up/prevent this?

How would you describe the sound of these headphones compared with T1 and the LCD-2? Could you put it in between? I like the musicality of the LCD-2, but they are a little to dark, the T1 lacks a little bass punch and is too bright. I'm looking for bass punch, enjoyable (doesn't mean neutral, but natural) mids and neutral highs, soundstage isn't really important to me. Favorite music is rock of every kind (classic rock, rock'n roll, hard rock, progressive, also some alternative,...) , metal (heavy, thrash, some death metal) indie, folk and pop.

What would you as W3000ANV owners recommend for a good one-box DAC/amp solution for the office? Have a pair on the way but can't get anything too conspicuos for our open plan office. Open budget, just can't be too big or with tubes sticking out. And ideally one-box solution. I already get enough questions about my headphones setup as it is (Pico/HF-2); don't want to explain why I need a separate DAC and amp. Any suggestions much appreciated :)

 

PS: Hope the W3000ANV are good. Never heard them but I like the ESW9 and I just didn't like any of the current production closed headphones I auditioned (Beyer T5P, Denon 71000, Fostex TH-900).

You didn't like the TH900?

 

Is the Conductor to big?

 

Not sure what conductor too big means but I didn't like its tone.

the Burson Conductor - a dac/amp/pre-amp.

Right now I'm trying to talk myself out of buying the Conductor - or more likely its 'amp/pre-amp' only version, the Soloist (plus a Gungnir). However, I suspect I will fail, and fairly soon.



I wouldn't buy the W3K in the search for bass if the T1 doesn't cut it for you.

 

I purchased my pair shortly after last year's Bay Area meet when I spent a bit of time with the pair you had at the time, and have used the W3000ANV exclusively the past nine or so months.  They're very comfortable for me to wear for long periods of time and music is really engaging yet non fatiguing. 

I think I'm talking myself out of the Soloist and leaning towards the V200.

dallan do you have any guidance on this pairing - is it too coloured with the W3k? I tried it with a vintage receiver and an OTL - so I'm thinking something in between those two sounds, dynamic yet musical, and a completely black background with these sensitive ATs. They are wonderful with the receiver, but some albums would benefit from a totally silent background.

(Also would use it with D7000s and T1s, if that has any impact.)

Both are excellent headphones. The V200 is warmer sounding and dead quiet as is the Soloist but it is not warm and does have the click sound in the attenuator. If you like a warmer sound the V200 is your ticket the Soloist is more neutral. cant go wrong with either.

The v200 is wonderful with the w3000anv and you would think perfect not hearing anything else. It drives them well and is very full sounding. The Zana Deux is the other amp I routinely use with them. It is more dynamic and has a dead black background however is not as full sounding as the v200. The Zana Deux is in a league above the v200 and you can tell but there are atributes of the v200 that make it better in some ways for the w3000anv as well. Just a quick answer, maybe not sufficient....I'm at work peaking it ot on ipad mini. Good Luck, can't really go wrong with v200 in my opinion, well suited to wide range of phones.
