I own all of them, and the M50 is easily one of the most overhyped mediocre headphones I've wasted my money on. But that's just my opinion. There's easily 100 other people who will claim it's the best thing since sliced bread, as it returns to "flavor" every other year or so. The M50 is not even comfortable. It's very stereo sounding, limited sound staging. The sound is ok, it's good, but it's not superb or anything like people like to post, but I gather they've not experienced better sound to be able to compare it to, or at least, other offerings in a similar price range to be able to make a broad comparison at least. But again, that's me speculating. I just don't understand how the M50 gets so much attention when it's just so very, very average in most ways. The one thing that I liked about the M50 was that it had 180 degree swivel cups which made it nicer as a portable for having the drivers face down when not wearing on the ears. But that is a useless feature for a home use headphone. And my biggest gripe is always comfort; if you're going to wear it, it should be comfortable, and the M50 is just not that comfortable, it reminds me of any other headphone that is using firm pleather pads in an average sized "full size" housing that just barely fits over your ears assuming normal adult male ears which get bigger with age.

I have several Beyers and none of them have had this rattling thing you speak of. I've not even read about a rattling issue with Beyers in any significant way. Just because one or two people in the ocean of Beyer owners had an issue, doesn't mean the entire production line of Beyer suffers from some kind of total catastrophe of rattling sounds. Sounds like a rash of Amazon reviews (as those are definitely credible...). I'll put that right in line with people thinking all Denons have loose screw issues. And that all Schiit amps melt headphones due to poor or no relays installed. Basically a bunch of isolated mishaps out of thousands that gains legendary status due to perpetual posting of old information on isolated issues over and over and over by people who dig it up on searches and forget to read the date or even consider that it only happened one or a few times, not every time. Yet they post it. Over and over. It's exacerbated a this point and nauseating. But hey, that's just my opinion obviously. And this is just a big can of worms that there's always a few staunch defenders of (who have never even had said headphones or gear mentioned usually).

Beyers are durable, very sturdy, take a beating. The cups are big and deep, and pretty much more comfortable than most headphones out of the many I have and have tried. Great sound stage on every one of them too. They have fewer moving parts, less to break with time, and easily replaceable and affordable ear pads in multiple color and material options. I could go on and on about how I like Beyers. But it doesn't help you.

I would suggest you simply get a Beyer and try it. See what you feel like when you feel it and hear it, compared to something average, like the M50.

That said, I had Brian over at BTG re-cable my DT770's to have a detachable lockable cable that is sheathed and 4 feet long, as these are my portables. Ultra comfortable. Great sounding dynamic with wonderful warm rich sound and a sparkle. Of all my headphones, it's the one I like the best as a portable and gets a lot of head time even at home, next to my Denons and Hifimans and others that I favor most. They're just that good. But that's my sonic preference, not everyone's.

Here's my DT770 after Brian worked his magic on it:

Again, all I can say is you have to try things--you'll read a lot of negative stuff about any headphone if you read enough.

Very best,

Ding, Ding.  People need to put these occurrences in perspective of just how many people have experienced issues vs the actual amount of people who own the product.

As MalV mentioned, I'd like to chime in and say that Beyer is one of most quality products that I've used period. The build quality is as good as anybody in the game top to bottom. The fit finish and QC is as good as it gets IMO. I have no issue's with any that I've owned and I have owned many.
