The New iRiver AK100: A High-End DAP - Page 535

Some time ago I reported that the AK somtetimes stops reading / playing FLACs saying that it doesn't know the file format.

IRiver support wasn't very helpful there. After some time they basically proposed to rerip the files (Which I had done before posting) or buy HiRes files.

I'd like to know if anybody has encountered similar issues?

Thx.

I want talk You about bugs in AK100 with firmware 2.3

-Bad displaying of song names with diacritics at main screen. But In the List of songs is it OK !
See pic.

I have a few wishes to future version of firmware. Does not anybody have contact to developers ?

-On info screen add more infos about the song.

Display full path where is song located.

-Add possibility of DELETE song(s) in device directly.

-Make the text with long names scrolling. Now I cannot see full names.

I'm pretty sure you can delete files from the device directly (at least I can do so from my AK100 MK2 and I think they use the same firmware...). Check your manual.

Really?

Maybe it's not there?

Anyway, if you want to delete a specific file, you CANNOT do it from the "Playing now" screen (sadly), but if you go via listing (before selecting a song to play) you can just "Swipe" your finger from right to left on top of the song you want to delete, wait like 1 or 2 seconds and another "submenu" will appear where you can either add the songs to your "favorites" or delete it. Tap on the trash can/delete button and there you go...

@AlterSack I had same issue with tracks not playing. I've just formatted both cards and reloaded with music to see if it helps.

@Loquah,

yes - I also reformatted the cards, but with some tracks the issue stays. My Superuniti plays the exact same files without a problem - so I assume that maybe the AK is more sensible towards little mistakes in the files or maybe generates a kind of "buffer overrun". The weird thing is that is plays some 10-40 seconds of the respective FLAC files, then stops and jumps to the next plays it again, jumps to the next file and then "freezes". After that it allows to navigate the menu (therefore no complete freeze) but refuses to play any file.

After that only a reboot helps.

I have thinned out the respective files on my cards by rereipping them - but it still happens now and then especially with HiRes files (24/192)

I assume I probably just have to cope with this bug as not too many others seem to have the problem and Iriver seems much more focussed on promoting the new AK240 than in working on FW-updates for the AK100.

Still it is a very annoying bug to me and I am watching the X5 thread with a lot of interest. I hope that this will become a true alternative to AK100 and AK120.

That's a bit different to my issue. Mine fails before even playing the track and I still can't tell why. Like you I'm seriously interested in the X5, but only if it sounds as good or better.

Just got a dx50 in exchange of the ak100, and the first 5minutes EVERYTHING was more intuitive and fluid....than 6 months with the ak....

happy I have changed the device.

I hope my days of upgrading are over. I have the AK100 which is my preffered for ease of use and as a dac for the odd occasion and it has a great sound quality.
I have spent a fortune on this and the DX100 and the C4 Pro.
That'll do me

No.  Even the AK120 isn't on my radar since I have the mk2.

Good for you, but personally overall I still prefer the AK100 over DX50.

I am thinking about getting a ak100 but cannot find a definitive answer. Does it support embedded cue sheets in single flac files. All of my CDs are ripped into single flac files With their cue sheets embedded. Foobar2000 and Logitech media server can handle this just fine. Not know this is the only thing really stopping me from getting one.
