By way of reference, my other rigs are:
- iPod Classic / CLAS -R / Alo Continental V3
- DX50 / Alo National
- iPod Touch / Apex Glacier
- X3 / E12 (which I dont really use much anymore)

The AK100/Quickstep combo is up there with the ipod/CLAS/V3 combo in terms of sound quality - just a different palette.

Cool I'll look into the quickstep. How is the ak10 with the alo v3?

The T1 is a little longer, a touch thicker and a touch narrower.

As for sound, it's warmer than neutral, but very detailed and with a large soundstage. It's actually quite an amazing amp in that it stays transparent and detailed while also providing a slight boost in the bass (compared to neutral) and the bass is not bloated or boomy, just a bit fuller and with a little more impact.

Here are some photos to illustrate (if the upload works this time - I'm having some issues here...)

That's a sweet looking setup! I'll definitely take the amp into consideration

Had a listen to the Fiio E12 DIY the other day & probably would have bought it if I had the extra money (still might soon), lots of options with the changeable modules, sounded great with the AK100 MkII & V3's (and very different from what I ended up buying), but I went with a JDS Labs C5 as it offered best bang for buck at the price/sound I was after. Very happy with the result. I'd be auditioning first & seeing what works with the MkII & headphones/IEM's you have (unless you'd be happy to sell something at a bit of a loss if you didn't like it).

Havent really tried that combo, as I like the small size of the AK100/Quickstep rig - and the 3-component stack with the V3 is a different beast altogether.

Just can't catch a break here =(

So toslink seems to work great, so far, but the lock feature is perma turned on.  Minor nuisance but annoying none the less that the lock function, which is off in player mode, is on in toslink dac mode.

Really? So you're saying that the volume lock (ie screen has to be on for volume control) activates when using optical in? That doesn't happen for me I don't think. Latest firmware?

Yes 2.30.  Another fun fact... if I press the back/pause/forward buttons even while locked... it jumps back to player mode /facepalm

Does work correctly in USB mode... except for the whole sliding delay over time thing.

I am LOVING the Vorzuge Pure II paired w/ my RWAK100-S.  And the length width dimensions are pretty close too.

That's a vary interesting little amp. Never herd of it before. Do you know how it compares to any of Rays balanced amps?

I've only heard the SR-71B, and it was over a year ago, so it wouldn't be right of me to compare them.  I do however also own the ALO Rx MKIII-B, and the Vorzuge stomps that in terms of low noise floor especially.  I'm trying to not be a fanboy about it, but the Vorzuge Pure II is going to keep me happy for a while, to the extent that the next DAP I buy will have to provide an uncompromised line-out for me to consider buying, because portable or not, I will want to use the Pure II with it.

I thought the ak100 had a line out?
