Btw I'm pairing the Ak100 with my ASG. 2

I asked iRiver about this :

Checked at Japan websites... USB 3.0 is not supported.

--> Translated via Google.

USB-DAC function corresponding firmware Ver2.10 or later. It can be used in, 7, 8 (32bit/64bit) MAC OS X10.7.5 or more Windows XP, Vista. It does not support USB-DAC function via the USB3.0 port on 64bit OS. There are cases where music is played by the specifications of the connected device is interrupted. It is not possible to use USB DAC, using the optical digital output. We do not guarantee the operation of the connected devices of all.

Hi JFHG,

My apologies for this late reply.

Just tested my AK100 MKII as a USB DAC using a Macbook running OSX version 10.9.1 with no problems.

What version of the Mac OSX OS are you using? Are you using the supplied Micro USB cable that came with the AK100 MKII in the box? What is the firmware version running on your AK100 MKII? Please note that the latest firmware on the AK100 MKII is 2.30.

Regards,

J.Moon

Since then, total silence from iRiver.

Pity.

As said, problem is not only with 3.0 : I'm on 2.0 and USB connection i quirky at best.

Yup.  If it makes you feel better it's just as quirky on Windows.  USB3 is a no go and USB2 starts fine but has a delay that just grows and grows over time.  Think the worst I've had is a full 10s delay between video and audio.  Disconnect and reconnect and bam... back to sync for about an hour before the gap is easily seen.  I have toslink adapters coming so I hope that works better.

A. USB 2.0 does not connect properly. AK 100 recognizes (or not) the connection, you confirm Connect to DAC,

it appears (or not) in Sound Prefs, and no sound.

B. Repeat the whole thing 5 to 10 times and finally you get sound.

C. With toslink, connection is immediate and 100 % reliable.

D. IRiver knows the bug, because it's recurrent.

I assume the AK120 has the same problem?

I'm using 2 x 32gb SanDisk cards, but haven't yet tested to see which card is the cause. I have emptied (not fully formatted) the cards and reloaded with no success and I can't tell if it happens on a certain track because the device goes straight to library scan.

Just asking this again to see if anyone's found a solution. I've slow formatted one of the cards and will see what happens and will try the other card if the problem continues. At least then I'll know if it's a card error or player / file error.

How does the Tralucent size compare to the ak100? What's the amp sound like?

I use my AK100 with a Meier Quickstep and it is a really, really good combo.   Does a very creditable job with the HD800s as well, which I just bought yesterday.

By way of reference, my other rigs are:

- iPod Classic / CLAS -R / Alo Continental V3

- DX50 / Alo National

- iPod Touch / Apex Glacier

- X3 / E12 (which I dont really use much anymore)

The AK100/Quickstep combo is up there with the ipod/CLAS/V3 combo in terms of sound quality - just a different palette.
