Nope you don't need to wait for it to finish charging before you can drag and drop files inside it :)

The RW has a bit more bass volume apparently. So the stronger bass of the UM3X will likely be a bit more musical and fun sounding. I have both and a set of 535 Ltd Ed and either Westone is streets ahead of the Shures.

How did you get past the cable noise? For me it drowned out the music. If the W4r is superior in any way to the 535s I certainly couldn't tell. I think the 535s are a great match for the RWAK100.

Me too,

Have SE535 with RWAK100 (using with TTVJ Slim-gives me a sense of bigger soundstage) and just trying out with newly acquired Just Audio AHA-120 (this is beautifully clean and powerful). With 2.01. To me the SQ has clarity/detail and space with a dimension.

Cable noise??? Never had an issue with the stock Epic cables. I wear my IEMs while walking rather than exercising but never been bothered or even conscious of cable noise. In fact when I had my TF10s I swapped the stock cables for epics because the stocks were noisy and these were the recommended fix on the TF10 thread.

Re. SE535s. I've had both std bronze and red ltds and while a very good earphone they are too forward in the mids my taste. Don't get me wrong, before I got my W4 the 535 were my favorite earphone and it took a few months for my taste to change. I firmly believe sound signatures are an acquired taste. If you're used to 535s then W4s may sound recessed at first. In reality they are much closer to reference monitor reproduction in a consumer earphone than any others I've heard. And for me that's what I like.

My turn to ask a stupid question - why does one need a volume knob protector?

I don't see how the knob would break, even if you drop the unit and it lands on the knob.  If you've seen how the knob is screwed in on the inside of the unit to a coupler and then to the rotary encoder (which sends the signal to the dac), it's pretty solid.  I know it has some wiggle and play in it, but that is so it can move about freely.  If it didn't have that play in it, it would be more prone to snap off.  But I can't see how it would in the first place - It's solid aluminum.

Or is this just about protecting from scratches?

Thanks,

Vinnie

For me, when I am taking the unit from the case to change the card. Its hard to not to pull it without using the knob. When the protector come in handy. Also, the unit looks more solid with it.

LOL Vinnie, I've also said many times a "protector" is not really required to protect the knob. I have yet to hear any horror story on the knob coming off!   However I'm sure it makes one feel more secured and protected....

em... cable noise for w4r... that's a first!  and it even drowned out the music, must be some "epic cable"!  LOL

Seriously I cannot imagine a less mircophonic cable than the ones with w4r, that plus the fact it's worn over the ear I really cannot imagine any noise from the cable!  Surely never once bothered me on my w4r.  I'm not a big fan of the Shure house sound and feel the w4r is in every way superior to the 535s.  The best quality of the 535 is it kept it value well and I was able to sell it with minimal loss.

Hi!
Dear Iriver and JMoon!
There is a serious error that occurs when updating the software.angry_face.gif
Three people ak100 owner, with forum.doctorhead.ru had a problem.
One person in updating 1.30 to 1.33
Two people when upgrading 1.33 to 2.01
After downloading the software is a constant restart ak100. ak100 not be turned off, a reset button, nothing can be done. Ak100 computer does not detect. It happens all the time, until he is discharged. Then, too, did not help.
The problem could be solved only after Listrid remotely connect to computers and the ak100.
The error occurs because of the fact that there is a failure on the drive fat32 ak100.
I recommend to all, before you install any firmware pre-ak100 check the disk for errors, and only then perform the update.
This is especially true firmware from version 2.01.
In this version, iriver has disabled the service mode. He hopes the button in the menu "Format".
And what to do when the upgrade to the official firmware is a constant reboot? How do the formatting?ph34r.gif
Required to do the formatting in my head Iriver programmers.cool.gif
Thank you.
