besides the cost, I would like to understand if this mod will prevent future firmware upgrade. still, it is quite a financial commitment without being able to try it out in shops....

Even I'm already in the 3,000+ stupidly expensive portable bracket (AK120+FT334+Twag v3 8con) I still cannot see myself dedicated enough for that. Can't afford the size. My pocket is not deep enough literally.

So forgetting about the price...if one were to get the modded rwak100s... What are some amp suggestions that would minimize the DAP's footprint (flat profile, roughly matches the ak100's dimensions, etc.) and have exceptional sound quality?

Would the pico power be a better pairing with the AK100 than the pico slim ?

I have sent my black AK100 out to Red Wine Audio this morning and can't waitnormal_smile%20.gif

It is about how serious one takes their personal audio and the fact that the pricing of a complete mini stack isn't for the fainthearted.......However, my honest feeling is, this mod will really take portable audio into the next level.

I am looking forward to trying the AK100S with all my amps especially the ordered TU-05 and TU-06 .....plus I just heard another portable amp yesterday that is phenomenal.

Footprint,

the Ak100 with 71B is about 7-8mm taller than the 901

Apologies for picture quality.............

Is worth having this mod done to AK120?
Or any mod available for it/ benefits?

You should do that stack-them-up photos that the taiwanese loves on the 01mobile forum.... you need to get the X3 and TP into your collection too!!

If the AK100/S can match or even surpass this on a portable level...I will be over the moon.

Same WM8741 chip. This Bladelius usb Dac sounds great!

Hence, my excitement for the AK100/S tongue_smile.gif

Hi CHG,

Future firmware upgrades will not cause a conflict with the RWAK100-S because we configure the WM8741 dac to run in "hardware mode" - which means it is no longer controlled

by software (no longer runs in "software mode").

Hi spkrs01,

I'll be on the look out for your AK100.  I am glad to see your expectations are high - because they should be!  cool.gif

Hi Musicday,

If you are just looking for a portable source (line-out) to feed your headphone amp, the RWAK100-S is smaller and less $$$ than the stock AK120.  I'll let others comment on how they compare sonically... I'll be looking forward to seeing the comparisons!   As you all know - I cannot post my opinions here since I am not a site sponsor.

I will say that two WM8740s does not equal one WM8741 with minimal phase filtering and pure line-out.  wink_face.gif
