The New iRiver AK100: A High-End DAP - Page 34

700

iriver Global site has a list of headphones that they recommend to pair with AK-100.   Apparently all are dynamics and the list includes mostly dynamic headphones (W3000Anv, Denon D7100, DT1350, Shure SRH840, Shure SE425).    I demoed and pick up Ocharaku Flat4 'Sui' which to me has the best synergy with the AK-100.     This is only my personal preference and i am loving this combo very much.

The Ocharaku FLAT-4 produce a wider and open soundstage compared to the other iems.    The Piano Forte FAD IX and X works very well with the AK-100 too.  The AK-100 works very well as a transport, and with the RX Mk3, the sound is fantastic.

We need to hear some excitement! Ok sounds like he was going to be put to sleep lol :P.

Ok, that will be nice to hear some impressions of AK100+W4R. This hoping that this DAP will go down to 400$, and then i think it will be well worth it, even if i have to use it just with big headphones.

Can it be modded to make the output less the 1 Ohm, maybe some resistors?wink.gif

The AK100's output impedance is about 20ohm. No wonder they only recommend dynamic In-Ears hahahaha.

U can forget pairing this DAP with a Multi-Ba. It will sound horrible in the most cases unless u take a low impedance amp with u...

Or you could use the Tzar 350 a multi driver BA (IEM) with a nominal impedance of 350 Ohm as 1KHz (no resistors added, they are built from the ground up with high impedance)

You can find comments about them at http://www.head-fi.org/t/635846/heir-audio-tzar-90-and-tzar-350-universal-in-ear-monitors/165

How silly is that? We have to paid lots of hard earned $$$ for a DAP and then pay lots of $$$ for a certain IEM to work with it?

I hope iRiver read this and come up with AK200 in few months with less then 1 ohn independence so the rest of us can use it with any IEM's and Cans.

+ 1...

Why create a super portable player if you have to carry only big cans with it?......something not logic...

agreed and that is why I felt launching the Tzar series of High impedance IEMs was a good idea.

Who among us use the standard head phones issued by the manufacturer? I know I never did....

Exactly!!! And a MOT creating specially designed high impedance IEM's isn't the answer. The MOT gets business, and we get to pay $$$ for a waste of a device (iriver ak100).

So if you purchase a DAP, do you use their standard 5$ ear phone, or upgrade?
