Could anyone make sonic comparisons to an iMod / Diymod 5.5 (or 4-5) paired with a descent amp?

I ask as although the RWAK100 setup appears to have the advantage of both form factor and SQ, it is behind the iMod / Diymod in terms of storage space, interface and price... at least, that's what I'm concluding from user's complaints. Are the improvements in SQ worth this sacrifice?

Shotgunshane, your comments would be useful, as you've just reverted back to an isetup.

I do like the iMod-International setup more than the RWAK-International SQ wise but the RWAK by itself is a great portable DAP.

on their AK100 yet? any improvements on low impedance iems?

If you'd bothered to read through the thread you would see that this will make the player sound worse, not better.

Would it have killed you to write one more sentence explaining why adding an additional 75 ohm resistance to the output of a device whose output impedance is already too high is a bad idea?

Adding additional resistance to the unit will result in an undesired alteration of the frequency responses of sensitive IEMs and even sensitive headphones. But the biggest impact is on BA IEMs (with crossovers). The effects are random but what is a given is the sound will be altered from what the manufacturer intended the IEM to sound like. Basically you get a free auto EQ lol :P.

Ok, well I hope this isn't a stupid question, but is the issue going to be the same if using the etymotic cable with the IEMs it was designed for, the ER4Ps? I have the ER4Ps and was intending to buy the cable anyway.

 

I'm in the UK so buying the RWAK100 becomes a far more costly and long winded process than i'd like, so I'm tempted to pick up the AK over here and only send it over to Vinnie if I really have to. I need new cans anyway, so I'm open to purchasing something with a higher impedence that will suite the AK.

 

Other than the Tzar 350s are there any other obvious IEM options available?

 

and has anyone worked out why IRiver are still promoting the Shure SE425s on there site?

Well you have to factor in that that particular adapter will cause the ER4Ps to sound like the other model (forgot the name?). But if you add more resistance I would think it would alter the sound from even that other model.

 

I'm not sure about the SE425s. iRiver does say it sounds good on their unit and they may very well be right. Just putting it out there that it won't sound as it would stock out of another DAP or device with low output impedance. So you'll have varying sound as a result. Now whether or not that will be your forte is the question :).

Has nothing to do with 'hipster cred' It has everything to do with, spending 15 minutes or so and familiarizing yourself with what your asking about. Me, I feel stupid when I ask a duh question so I try to read to educate myself before asking. Its not as easy as depending on someone to do the work for me but a lot more satisfying when I do some of the work myself. And I find I get more help when I know what questions to ask.
