I've spent very little time with the Tera...with V0's a few weeks back, & last years with Sasaki-san's. I personally wouldn't call it hocus pocus but there's definitely a lot of praise for it just like many other products here.

I just can't get myself to a regimented workflow to get my songs on it...ALAC/AAC for my iDevices, FLAC for my DX100/RWAK100, then another format of the same tracks for the Tera? Is a little too much for me. Killing FLAC for WAV isn't such a good option due to tagging (yep, I know irrelevant for Tera but still relevant for the other players).

Also, not to get too deep into FLAC vs WAV, when people have compared the Tera to the DX100/RWAK100, did they compare WAV-to-WAV or WAV-to-FLAC?

With the V3 I havent really paid attention to it so much so there's no 100h on that yet haha...

On a side note, its sooo hard to convert stuff to other formats but its worth it for me... My 2tb HDD is getting filled quickly though...

We've done WAV to FLAC and WAV to WAV... There's really not that much of a difference besides the file size...

I'm not converting, and converting, then converting again. FLAC is as far as I'll go, and I'm just no longer interested in even demoing a Tera Player any longer.

 

The naysayers of the TP have excellent points, the owners have valid points, but both have reached an impasse. The fact that there's this cult-like following that refuses to reason or listen to sanity, and the "disbelievers" that are treated like pariah, it's all too much for a person to remain interested in a player for. Even the creator spewing strange self-generated "true-isms",...too funny but too much. Then the "believers" & "disbelievers" calling each other names back and forth? Ugh,...ridiculous. 

 

I want nothing to do with the device,.... Well, maybe I do. But it needs to calm down a bit in that thread to bring me back to wanting a demo.

 

Now, Le sigh, if I could only afford shotgunshane's RWAK100. Bummer!!! triportsad.gif

lol tds101 you had a chance to demo it free of charge and your own bias is stopping you from at least dong that. I didn't let that stop me from getting the RWA AK100 but in the end it wasn't what I thought it would be cracked up to be. I'd say give it a shot and just demo it so you know what it sounds like and maybe even have some reference point if you still do opt for the AK100. I agree on the Tera lacking on many basic features but what intrigues me is that people find that acceptable still. It must sound damn good to do that lol.

lol I know what you mean. But heck if you have a free opportunity to hear it for yourself that is cherry. As they say "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free" ;)....

As an owner of both the rwak and tp, don't dismiss until you have heard. I am currently favoring the tp, but will give some more time to the rwak before I decide which to sell. The cult-like following is simply a byproduct of the product's sound.

Well once you try it out for yourself then you can come to your own conclusion without having to rely on the subjective or objective bs :). At the end of the day all that really matters is your own preferences and if the gear suites your needs. Not everyone is gonna like the same gear or even hear things the same.

Agreed. That thread is getting a bit ugly. Which is unfortunate. Will post some more impressions when I have them. In the meantime, back to my kitchen.

Well there was 65 new posts that I just finished reading and it's just annoying. I mean hey we all have the rights to our opinion. But I feel if the hardcore objectivists have such an issue with said gear? Why bother posting and just unsubscribe from the thread and just stick to the Sound Science section... I'm at least under the impressions these people are just hear to kill the mood and enjoyment others get from their gear.... At least it feels that way to an extent. rolleyes.gif Hell I said my piece on the AK100 and was offered a solution and tried it for myself. It didn't workout for me but I at least gave it a shot... It's also the main reason I stuck around as I was hoping there would be a solution lol :P.

I think it's ok to ask questions, it's ok to voice your opinion, but the straight out bickering is totally too much. To each their own,...one mans garbage is another mans gold.

I love my AK100, it fulfills a bunch of my requirements:

 

- Excellent sound.

- Charged via micro USB (I always have a USB charger and cable handy).

- Physical buttons to control volume and play.

- Small and long battery life.

- Able to browse CDs by folders.

- Play 96/24 files

 

I am using XLD  to convert to FLAC and include album arts. In case of problems (missing album art, etc) I use metaflac command line tool. AK100 does not like the compilation tag (album name is wrong), I remove it using metaflac (metaflac --remove-tag=COMPILATION *.flac).
