I've been burning in aggressively on near max volume with a homemade dummy load jack (2x 24ohm/L&R, as per Vinnie's advice)...

I guess I'll add on the 30 ohm to the 75 ohm etymotic impedance adapter and see how that helps :). So far I think I'm around 115 hours aggressive burn in. I notice the battery barely drains though unless you have an IEM plugged in in comparison to having just and impedance adapter plugged in.
Still, so far my most favorite experiences came from this player at very low volumes (micro-detailing).

If you don't like it by now, I don't see any drastic changes. You might as well sell it.

I am using harder to drive phones so its around 40~50. With CIEM I figured that it might be 20~35 depending on their specs.
Nice case
Just the impedance adapter(s) with no phones is not a circuit. There's no load which is why it doesn't drain the battery. You need to plug some (trash) phones in to make a complete circuit if you really want to work the amp.

I'm finding the player to be most detailed & enjoyable around volume 18 or so. Around volume 30 I'm more tempted to pump up the volume more lol.

I put the hisound live buds on. They are quite power hungry and I think can take the abuse lol.

A response from iRiver. Funny how their responses are differing....
Hi Jim,
Thank you for contacting iriver customer support.
After receiving a response from our development team, we have the answers to your questions:
1. Unfortunately the m3u is not supported but the PLS type playlist files are. When you create the playlist from the device or the iriver Plus 4 software, it will be saved as a PLS file.
2. The device is detected on Media Monkey or Jriver but any functionalities of those softwares beyond that, we cannot guarantee that there will be no problems since those softwares are not from our company. The device is designed to be used with our iriver’s Plus 4 software program so we strongly recommend that you use our program to avoid any malfunctions of the device.
3. The gapless playback is not supported and unfortunately there is no plan to support it in the future.
4. There is no plan on changing the output impedance of the device. The reason for this, is because it was purposefully designed to support headphones with high impedance so that users can listen to high-definition music. Since the AK100 produces a very flat sound balance, high impedance headphones with flat frequency responses will need to be used with the AK100 in order to hear the music as it was meant to be heard. If you would like to check out our recommendations for headphones to be used with the AK100, you can check them out here: http://www.astellnkern.com/eng/htm/showroom/02_showroom.asp.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please email us back at any time.
Thanks & Regards,
Customer & Tech Support
