All I have seen after 2007/08 is a company that is obsessed in design, but not in functionality.

Which US forum?

That is if they actually have any PR left in the West. As far as I know, iriver has fully (or close to being fully) withdraw back to Korean and Chinese market now. Those are the two places where they still have some market share left.

That was definitely the forum I was on. Really enjoyed some laughs there. Migrated over here after it slowed down and eventually closed. We should have a reunion thread!

I agree about Iriver. I think they pretty much shut down west operations except some sales. They're going south so fast and have been for awhile. On one hand it's very sad to see, but on the other hand, just about everything they made after the H320 was behind the times and was subpar in terms of quality. They still can't emerge into a more useful market. Even the ereader they put out is riddled with issues and low functionality.

Probably the Hifiman 901 will be our last hope :P. I really hope they don't disappoint as it will just support the rest of the rejects on the market instead of setting a standard.... frown.gif

Lee, you are so right about the 901 being the last hope of the current crop. Where can we find out the scoops about it?

You mean you wont be rocking your local bus stop with a pair of HE-6s hooked up the new CLAS and an RXMK3 ? Fully balanced, source to phones, and 240GB of Apple Lossless. No idea what the DAC in the new CLAS sounds like, but its still an interesting prospect.

Nah I don't want to carry around a bomb. Not saying the DX100 or Hifiman 901 are miniature but most definitely smaller in comparison to a 3 piece rig. Plus I bet you with these devices using a high end amp will still crush those 3 piece rigs and you'll spend less money. I think a 2 piece rig would be a tad more portable as well. Plus I hate apple, not worth polishing a turd ;).

Nothing new about iRiver AK 100, they keep this one very quiet.

Pure supposition unless you are prepared to pony up the cash to make a worthwhile comparison. For the sum total, you could have a VERY nice desktop rig, from source to phones. Just doesnt make financial sense.

A counterpoint to my previous post is the question of whether anyone really NEEDS a fully-balanced portable rig. Mike from Headfonia claims that its swings and roundabouts with balanced amps, and he has a problem with the lack of imaging precision  - again, determining whether that will be your experience requires a significant investment.

And at that a big risk ;). I'm quite comfortable in my zone right now. Just gonna sit back and enjoy  until the 901 comes out and at that point I'll see if I'm gonna sell the DX100 and jump on the 901 bandwagon. Then again I'm hearing rumors that Hibino is getting on ibassos ass about the crumby UI right now and expects them to fix all the issues within a couple months time. So we'll see. Hopefully this is the case because ibasso is taking way too long to fix these remaining issues. Seems like they don't care anymore. If that is the case and Hifiman manages to meet both demands, ibassos product will die (no one will want it or buy it when the 901 is around the same price with none of the issues).

Wow...if these rumors are true and they fix the software, sign me back....rolleyes.gif

Dreams, wishes and hopes , this is miserable man....
And not a single audiophil dap (96/24,192/24) is being designed out of China, not that I complain, just competition is good esp. from other countries.

Your willing to wait a few MONTHS for ibasso to fix the dx100's horrid UI and functionality??? That's a huge fail,...what a waste of customer's time,...
