Yeah like the answer "if you're still within warranty period and we decide to take that route". That is a bunch of passive-aggressive bs. That could mean they'll just wait til you are out of warranty (1 year) and still do nothing. But I'm curious how could a firmware update change the 22 ohms resistance when it is a resistor built onto the board itself? I never heard of changing firmware doing anything about this... :P
Personally I'd have felt a lot better if they came out about this in an official announcement and did it from the very start when the knew they f%%%% up.
That's exactly what iRiver will do.
Nothing.

I thought about this and I can't remember if I even asked it in this thread way earlier. I played around with EQ on the original AK100 to see if I could "compensate" the thin upper bass/lower mids on my former TG!334 and it 'almost' worked. So my prior question was whether they could hardcode in the firmware the "flat" EQ to make the frequency curve sound more balanced.
But then realised that it would be a stupid question since that setting would be only for the TG!334. On a mismatching amp-to-headphone impedance, the resulting frequency will vary from headphone to headphone. As such this can't be fixed by hardcoded EQ in firmware. The only sure way is to fix hardware-wise - what Vinnie at RWA has done.

Then I'm not gonna worry about it. If they intend on doing nothing then that makes me feel better ;). As toads had mentioned about the blood-diamond thing. Well that is exactly what this is. A pride thing and that will be their undoing. I'm glad to have a properly working unit which they "could not" produce themselves. Its a big slap in the face and hopefully a wake up call to them.

I just told Lee this...
If iRiver has zero regard for their customers, zero regard for their product, and zero regard for the laws of this country.
Two words.
Ff**K THEM.
just my 2 cents.
iRiver has been making DAP's for a while, so is their circuit topography using output resistors typical or something new? If they routinely add output resistors then they most likely won't be removing them anytime soon.

Lets just say they are in legal-entanglements within the USA for some rather unsavory actions they made recently. It's plastered across most hifi forums as we speak ;). Thanks for the heads up icefalkon. "What goes around, comes around!" ;)

LOL
love the blood diamond references! And the Diddy pic...priceless.
Look guys...if you got something from Vinnie...don't worry about it. You already voided your warranty! So it's not like...if iRiver does anything...you can send it back! You can't.
Vinnie is top notch AND a gentleman. He warranties his work. And God willing...you never need anything else done to the unit. As for whatever the manufacturer is doing with their imports and who they consider distributors...that's their problem. They are now selling DIRECT on the internet...bypassing distributors. That in and of itself IS odd. For a company with their manufacturing ability and past...to drop distributorship...Very very odd. But...in lieu of what may be going on...sort of makes sense now.
But again, if you got anything from Vinnie...for gods sake stop sweating it! He worked hard on your unit...brought it up to snuff, and you win! LOL if any of you don't want your unit from him...tell him to sell it to me! LOL
I may not believe in supporting iRiver directly, but I'll support RWA any day of the week.
Now email him and tell him I said the world is at peace again...ok?

Where did you get the impression RWAK100 owners are "sweating it"? I must have missed that post.

Well once he confirmed my suspicions I'm quite happy. They are just lying as usual. How pathetic and so low of them... Regardless we'll enjoy our units as they were intended in spite of them :P.

But you're not an RWAK100 owner yet so all options are still on the table for you - or are you doing the sneaky pull like me ;-)??

I couldn't find any of the forums about Iriver dropping its distributers, but I did find that its being sued for patent infringement.. is this related?
