I was hoping for some help in choosing some headphones for a gift. Budget is $100-200 and as it says in the title the user has an Essence STX and listens mainly to Rock with some gaming and TV streaming too.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Heya,
MrSpeakers Mad Dog (Modded T50RP)
Beyer DT880 250ohm & DT770 PRO 250ohm
AKG Q701
Hifiman HE-300 revision 2
Ultrasone HFI 2400, PRO 2500 & PRO 750
AudioTechnica A900X
Sennheiser HD598
Denon D2000 (used)
Very best,
Mad dogs would be nice, but they do need some amping, Beyer headphones are the best bet here if you are going the new route.
Heya,
The Mad Dogs do not need amplification beyond basic needs. They can be powered by an iphone/ipad. They can scale with better equipment. But let's not make it sound like they are not efficient, when they're highly efficient.
Also, the STX which the OP stated is the source has more than sufficient current output for the MadDog, and most headphones.
Very best,
For the budget, a used DT990 Pro 250-Ohm.
